employee voluntary scheme launched to support community improvement

As part of our CSR programme we are running an employee voluntary scheme to give employees time off work to volunteer for charitable causes that aid community improvement programmes. Employees have been involved from the outset and have chosen their own initiatives, set-up task groups and worked in conjunction with the schemes to launch and organise them.
Some schemes harness our recruitment expertise to improve employability – others gain help with conservation or to improve disadvantaged tenant’s homes. As a result we are now involved in supporting a variety of schemes such as;
The Refugee Council, Training courses to help refugees to find employment
Lee Valley Housing, Conservation work to improve the local environment
Together Trust, Tailored training for young people with disabilities
Acton Housing Association, Decorating the homes of disabled or those with ill health/old age
Street League, Organised football matches for disadvantaged people in London
Midland Heart, Training to help the young and disadvantaged find work
One particular scheme that has been running for nearly a year is through Family Housing Association. Family Housing recognise they have unemployed tenants short of the skills needed for their job search and who may lack confidence. We established and ran a programme of quarterly training sessions to assist disadvantaged tenants develop their employability skills. The courses offer advice on working in the public sector, CV preparation, job search techniques, interview training and improving communications skills. The courses are free, delivered by 3 consultants over 3 days at the client site.
We are aiming for around 85% uptake the employee voluntary scheme which equates to around 1,428 hours of volunteering for clients per year.
