What is expected of an HR Professional?

HR stands for human resources; the element within an organisation that deals with the employees at a personal level, catering to needs and requirements. Companies will often have a department dedicated to HR, which can provide a large range of services and advice to its employees.

HR jobs will require you to utilise the current skills and capabilities of the workforce, to maximise the companies ongoing and future plans and requirements. This will maximise the return on investment and ensure that the business survives in the future.

HR Jobs have many roles, including:

  • Handing out payslips and bonuses.
  • Handling paperwork that relates to the hiring or firing of employees.
  • Managing health and safety aspects of the company.
  • Managing company benefits.
  • Job advertising, screening applicants, interview arrangements and often hiring applicants.
  • Helping employees apply for leave or disability payment.
  • Handling employee complaints, such as abuse, sexual harassment, hostile environments or discrimination.
  • Approving employee reviews and assessing promotions or raises.
  • Motivating employees and possibly arranging company events.
  • Offering advice on company programs and training.

In most human resources jobs you will be required to maintain and conform to the latest labour laws and regulations, ethical business practises, profit, and in some cases employee performance and commitment.
