Job description

We have a current opportunity for a Associate Head of Data Governance on a permanent basis. The position can be worked fully remote.

The role:

  • Define, own and implement data governance across organisation, including any technical solutions.
  • Own, embed and maintain information governance frameworks, policies, principles and procedures and maintain data governance risk and issue logs.
  • Help ensure consistency across common data domains.
  • Review the remit of the Digital Ethics Board, and make recommendations for how we manage digital and data ethics.
  • Deliver Data Governance workstreams identified in organisation's data and analytics strategy.
  • Develop, extend, and maintain data governance policies, definitions, frameworks and standards, data dictionaries, data flows, controls, models, categorisations and definitions; embed and maintain master data management.
  • Drive high data quality standards by implementing KPIs and continuous improvements to ensure consistency and accuracy of our data.
  • Monitor, review and own organisation's digital ethics principles and policies, chair organisation's Digital Ethics Board.
  • Work with Compliance, Information Security and Data teams to make sure data security is embedded in all data development efforts and ensure data is compliant, controlled and secure.
  • Lead and develop the data governance, data management, and data community functions.
  • Build data capability by providing technical leadership and career development for the team.
  • Work with stakeholders across all of organisation's directorates to understand their data requirements and build a joined-up data community.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong experience in building and leading data teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including writing and delivering compelling presentations and professional reports to a variety of audiences.
  • Highly developed stakeholder management skills and the ability to 'talk tech' to senior teams with a commitment to 'plain English' and grounding highly technical concepts into local understanding.
  • Effective leadership and delivery of strategic data initiatives.
  • Experience in implementing data governance and management tools, processes, and frameworks.
  • Track record in staying conversant in new data regulation, sector-wide principles and frameworks, technologies, architectures and languages.
  • An understanding of CRM systems, data mining, database marketing, digital tracking and appreciation of the future "cookie-less world".
