Data Scientist

£46000 - £53000 per annum Excellent Pension & Holidays

Job description

We're currently recruiting for a Data Scientist & Modelling Lead on a permanent basis on behalf of our public sector client based in Glasgow

Salary; £46k - £53k


  • 40 Days Annual Leave

In this role you will drive innovation and improvements across our planning and budgeting cycle and create the supporting evidence base to explore the future strategic direction of the organisation. The role will focus on developing the strategic size and shape modelling capability within the Planning, Insight & Analytics team. Size and shape is a key strategic workstream that will influence our programme of future investment and aims to model the interactions between key areas of university activity, including student & staff composition, timetabling, research & other income streams, space requirements, student experience, reputational impacts and external benchmarking.

Duties Include;

  • Leading on the development and operation of Planning, Insight and Analytics size & shape and timetable modelling capability, including the synthesis of the evidence base in support of this activity.
  • Leading on the development of modelled options for future size & shape and engage at senior levels across the institution to communicate, embed understanding and influence thinking on strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Leading on engagement with external providers in support of these model developments.
  • Using a specialist analytical skill set, combined with strong credentials in delivering complex modelling to support the development of a data science led approach to understanding the relationship between the key institutional data sets.
  • Advising on the analysis and interpretation of data, identify trends and test solutions and report on progress to support the resolution of issues.

Skills and Experience;

  • Strong interpersonal skills including motivational negotiating, motivating, influencing and relationship building.
  • Ability to understand and apply data modelling techniques and produce relevant data models.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving capability across a broad range of management functions.
  • Experience of using data analysis and insight to inform decision making
  • Experience of developing and using complex models, including managing external providers.
  • Experience of adopting forecasting methodologies to support decision making
  • Previous experience working in a cross-departmental role
  • Experience of building credible relationships that deliver value
  • Experience of writing briefs/reports for senior leaders and presenting on strategically significant issues for stakeholders
