Job description

The YMCA St Paul's Group are looking to recruit a Deputy Childcare Coordinator to work as part of the Children and Family Work Department providing a programme of school holiday activities and care for children.

As the Deputy Childcare Coordinator your duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Provide a safe and stimulating environment for the children through a range of appropriate activities, ensuring that they are age appropriate
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with all children in the holiday play scheme.
  • Take an active role in activity planning and preparation of the play provision.
  • Ensure that behaviour management strategies are consistent with those of the organisation.
  • Relate to, and communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding the setting and care of their child.
  • Creating a welcoming and happy environment for all by helping to ensure that WPD rules are implemented and appropriate behaviour maintained
  • Promptly dealing with anything of an unusual or serious nature reported by the play workers
  • Club equipment is adequately maintained and cared for and to take part in a regular programme of cleaning and tidying equipment and storage areas
  • Provide a variety of creative and appropriate play activities, by planning, together with other staff and the children, varied activity programmes
  • Encourage the play space to be freely chosen and personally directed by the children themselves; incorporating the play work principles into daily operations.
  • Support children by displaying positive behaviour and taking the time to build relationships with each child in WPD's.
  • Dealing with accidents appropriately by ensuring that first aid is administered and accident details recorded in the accident file and reported in full to the parent/carer and logged onto smartsheet
  • Build relationships with parents/carers encouraging involvement in the club and promoting positive staff/parent relations through regular communication, giving feedback on their children and issuing and collating customer satisfaction questionnaires.
  • Keeping daily registers and maintaining children's records

The successful candidate will have:

  • NVQ level 3 in Play work (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of health, safety, Safeguarding and welfare issues concerning children
  • Understanding of OFSTED inspection requirements
  • Knowledge of Computer systems including Word, Excel (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience of providing care for groups of children of primary school age
  • Previous experience of providing play activities for groups of children of primary school age
