Hairdressing and Barbering Lecturer
£34,690 - £44,409 per annum
Full time, Permanent
The successful candidate will be required to contribute and take an active role in the delivery of successful learning experiences of our students and provide the full range of professional services associated with teaching programmes of Hairdressing and Barbering. You will also be required to deliver the curriculum effectively through a variety of different learning strategies, communicating effectively with students and staff as appropriate and provide students and staff with curriculum support.
You should be an honours graduate or have relevant final professional qualification or experience of teaching or training or assessment within the specialisms required. Candidates with relevant industry experience will also be considered.
You should also have effective communication skills and the ability to respond imaginatively to the challenges of an innovative curriculum and to develop approaches to teaching which gain the interest of students.

To undertake lecturing and related duties and undertake specific course leadership.
Key duties and responsibilities of the post
|
The main duties of the post are as follows: TEACHING
Teach an appropriate range of courses to a range of student groups in accordance with the College Standards for Teaching and the Promotion of Learning.
Deploy a wide range of teaching and student-centred learning strategies that ensure (a) the most effective learning, continuation, achievement, and progression of students, and (b) the most effective use of teaching time and other resources.
Stimulate and promote effective, student-centred, independent learning strategies for students of all levels of ability.
Ensure full implementation of the College’s admissions (entry) and induction phase activities for students.
Undertake continuous (formative) and summative assessments of students.
Contribute to the development and design of course and course modules.
Contribute to planning and scheduling process of both student and learning and the overall programme.
Contribute to the development of learning resources and flexible learning strategies.
Act in compliance with all course examination, assessment, and validation requirements. MARKETING Advise on the development of new business services and solutions, and new market opportunities.
Assist directly in the marketing of courses and the College generally, including liaison with schools, employers, training agencies, universities, the LSC and attendance at marketing events, and foster partnerships with other agencies where appropriate. QUALITY Ensure the full implementation of course review, evaluation and development, and other quality assurance processes as required by college policy; and work pro-actively to secure constant quality improvement and student completion and achievement of the highest possible standards.
Undertake regular and systematic monitoring of achievement of all targets set for your area of work.
Undertake a pro-active role in the performance review, quality audit, self-assessment, and staff development and training processes. MANAGEMENT OF PEOPLE, RESOURCES & PROCESSES Undertake course leadership.
Undertake management of staff as required.
Collect, organise, and maintain information and other records as required by college policies and systems.
Undertake all administrative duties in accordance with college and any relevant external requirements.
Manage all resources under your control effectively and efficiently, and in accordance with college rules and regulations.
Assist with the specification of equipment, accommodation and other resources required for the full development of the team’s programmes.
Work always as part of a learning area and undertake team leadership and management roles as required. GUIDANCE & TUTORING Undertake the role of personal tutor to groups of learners.
Undertake entry phase activities such as the interviewing, assessment, selection, and induction of students.
Organise and supervise student placements as required
Delivery of all forms of work-based learning (including modern apprenticeships and Train to Gain)
Support and assessment of NVQs (including delivery in off campus locations e.g., employer’s premises)
Play a full role in the maintenance of student’s discipline, operation of the College’s student disciplinary policy, and the maintenance of high standards of campus life generally.
Ensure full implementation of college policy on student representation at course level. GENERAL To always maintain the highest standards of professional behaviour (including compliance with the staff code of conduct), and a positive and customer focused approach.
To promote the best image, reputation, and interests of the College always, and in all circumstances.

To hold qualifications in English and maths at GCSE grade or Level 2 equivalent (essential)

Full-time roles are an 8.30 - 4.30 pm day across five days, teaching approximately 23 hours. You will support the training and development of 16-19-year-olds and adults wishing to upskill. There is an aspect of course management for all Lecturers; you will ensure all learners attend well, complete their assessments and work hard to develop broader skills to be ready to go into appropriate employment opportunities or an apprenticeship.

About the role :
West London College is looking to recruit an enthusiastic Lecturer in English to join its team. The appointed candidate will be responsible for teaching GCSE English and Functional Skills. This role will include lesson preparation, classroom delivery and marking. The appointed candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning to our learners and providing them with an outstanding experience. The post holder will also contribute to curriculum development within the department and will be actively involved in the recruitment, interviewing, selection and counselling of students.
The successful applicant will be an experienced educator with the ability to deliver English at GCSE level as well as Functional Skills. They will have experience in delivering innovative and creative teaching and learning and possess an up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of curriculum delivery. The appointed candidate will have a passion for delivering student success and have the ability to use inspiring teaching methods and produce engaging teaching materials. Excellent English and Maths skills will be required along with a high level of IT competency.
