Job Description

We have a current opportunity for a Premises Officer on a temporary basis. The position will be based in London. For further information about this position please apply.

The Premises Officer will facilitate in the provision of a safe, secure, clean and welcoming environment for staff, students and visitors. They will actively assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the premises ensuring the buildings are kept to a high standard. Premises Officer - Southwark College, will be based at the Southwark College campus but will required to familiarise themselves with procedures at all of the College campuses to facilitate cover arrangements for planned and unplanned absences by exception.

  • Unlocking/locking up of the premises, operating security alarm and key systems, monitoring and securing the premises.
  • Registered key holding responsibilities, responding to alarm systems activations and associated on call cover.
  • Notifying the line manager on the approved pro-forma and, if necessary, the police of break-ins, thefts or vandalism.
  • Assist the contract security team when required and liaising with local police and other emergency services.
  • Undertaking and/or assisting with the testing of fire alarms and extinguishing equipment.
  • Take effective action as fire warden/marshal during fire alarm activations.
  • Undertake First Aid training and be part of the campus duty First Aider rota system.
  • Removing snow and ice and treating external walkways to allow safe access to the premises/buildings.
  • Assisting the Health and Safety Manager carry out his/her duties where required.
  • Performing all duties/tasks in a safe manner and with awareness for the health & safety of all premise\'s users/visitors.
  • Liaising with contractors and undertaking risk assessments related to their activities within the College.
  • Operating the heating and ventilation plant in an energy efficient manner so as to provide an acceptable working environment.
  • Assist in the control of legionella by ensuring the operation of taps and showers as directed by risk assessment.
  • Recording meter readings on a monthly basis and providing information to Facilities Administration.
  • Maintaining outside areas in a clean and tidy condition including sweeping of hard ground areas and litter picking. Carry out general gardening duties as required by the Site Manager.
  • Recording and securing deliveries ensuring items are handed to the intended recipient.
  • Carrying out basic reactive and preventative maintenance activities including painting, joinery, plumbing and electrical.
  • Where required contacting contractors or any other appropriate bodies for the purpose of effective site management.
  • Carrying out precautionary measures to prevent or minimise the effect of severely cold weather on water systems and external drains.
  • Cleaning of toilets and associated replenishing of consumables as required between regular cleaning contractor operations.
  • Cleaning of storage areas archive spaces and plant room/water tank spaces as required.
  • Cleaning assistance in parts of premises not within the cleaning contract.
  • Emergency cleaning such as clearing up bodily fluids, spillages hazardous to the health & safety of premises users/visitors using appropriate PPE.
  • Responding to all graffiti on a zero-tolerance basis either by removal (taking care with decorative finishes) or by painting out.
  • Carrying out additional responsibilities as directed by the line manager which concern general site cleanliness.

    Full-time roles are an 8.30 - 4.30 pm day across five days, teaching approximately 23 hours. You will support the training and development of 16-19-year-olds and adults wishing to upskill. There is an aspect of course management for all Lecturers; you will ensure all learners attend well, complete their assessments and work hard to develop broader skills to be ready to go into appropriate employment opportunities or an apprenticeship.

    About the role :

    West London College is looking to recruit an enthusiastic Lecturer in English to join its team. The appointed candidate will be responsible for teaching GCSE English and Functional Skills. This role will include lesson preparation, classroom delivery and marking. The appointed candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning to our learners and providing them with an outstanding experience. The post holder will also contribute to curriculum development within the department and will be actively involved in the recruitment, interviewing, selection and counselling of students.

    The successful applicant will be an experienced educator with the ability to deliver English at GCSE level as well as Functional Skills. They will have experience in delivering innovative and creative teaching and learning and possess an up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of curriculum delivery. The appointed candidate will have a passion for delivering student success and have the ability to use inspiring teaching methods and produce engaging teaching materials. Excellent English and Maths skills will be required along with a high level of IT competency.

    To be eligible to apply for this role, you must possess the relevant qualifications listed in the person specification, this includes but is not limited to at least a level 2 qualification in Maths & English.
