Morgan Hunt is proud to be partnering with a renowned public sector organisation, seeking an experienced Category Lead. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to be responsible for the strategic sourcing for a specified category of spend, to achieve savings and maintain and improve service levels in line with their overall strategic aims.


Job Title: Category Lead
Salary: £45,500-£49,500 a market rate allowance
Job Type:FTC 6 months, could become permanent for the right candidate
Hours Per Week: Full Time
Working Arrangement: Hybrid Working(can be fully remote)
Location: Glasgow

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of key supply market drivers, market conditions and trends for the assigned category area
  • Lead the procurement process on all areas of the allocated category area inclusive of development of the commodity strategy, ITT, selection / evaluation models and award of contract
  • Establish and manage appropriate contract management to support the performance monitoring of key strategic contracts within the category
  • Develop appropriate supplier relationships for area of spend allocated
  • Support and mentor those individuals to whom you have line management responsibilities through learning and development and completion of development plans
  • Ensure that procurement activities follow internal governance process/observe legislative requirements
  • Accountable for all category deliverables within the category remit, ensuring the management of complex inter dependencies, ensuring that all programme and project outcomes and benefits are tracked, monitored and reported
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally through regular contact and meetings

Person Specification:

  • Category management experience in large organisation
  • Practical knowledge and application of the procurement legislative framework applicable to public bodies
  • Extensive knowledge of managing the procurement function from initiation through to contract implementation / management and renewal
  • Experienced in the delivery of high level and individual contract strategies
  • Experienced of managing multiple complex procurement projects and work programme
  • High level of commercial awareness and knowledge
  • Demonstrable commercial aptitude and ability to deliver results to agreed timescales in a demanding and fast moving work environment
  • Experience in managing stakeholders
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Understanding of the change environment within Scottish Public Sector Procurement
  • Experience in working in an environment with significant process and procedural controls
  • Educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in business related discipline
  • Full MCIPS membership or actively working towards full membership
