Job description

I am working with a reputable health-care/disability advocacy charity, who are looking for a Policy Lead (Scotland and Northern Ireland on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your policy career, whilst contributing to the charity's strategic aims and national policy priorities.

As a Policy Lead, you will be responsible for advocating on behalf of patients. You will be responsible for developing and implementing policy recommendations, whilst identifying opportunities for the charity to expand is scope of influence. You will represent the charity at external events and engage with senior decision makers in Parliament.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the inception and implementation of policy specific to the Scotland and Northern Ireland context, in line with the strategic aims of the charity.
  • Monitoring the external political and health environment to achieve tangible outcomes for patients.
  • Establishing strong professional relationships with key decisions makers in Parliament, relevant government departments and health-care providers.
  • Communicating policy developments to relevant stakeholders through briefings, reports and consultation responses.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of developing and delivering evidence-based policy in a nation-wide context.
  • Knowledge of health services and health system policy in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
  • Experience of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Proven communication skills including excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Experience of collaborative working and a team approach.
  • Experience of horizon scanning and networking to keep up to date with policy developments across the UK and beyond.
