EL/PL Casualty Claims Solicitor

 

Job Description

Our Casualty team provides a full, expert service in defending public (PL) and employers' liability (EL) claims, across the private sector and the public sector.  Weightmans' team is second-to-none in providing defendant litigation services in these and other specialist Casualty areas. We operate on a national basis with dedicated commercial insurance and public sector teams.

 

We are currently recruiting for a Casualty Solicitor/Legal Executive 0-3 YRS PQE to join our Casualty Team in Liverpool or Manchester.

 

Working in the dedicated commercial EL/PL team based out of Liverpool or Manchester with your own caseload of predominantly fast track claims (and/ or multi track depending on experience).  We receive direct instructions from both insureds and insurers dealing with pre- and post-litigated cases in the sub cat loss value area.

You will be responsible for the running of the day to day of your cases including liaising with clients, opponents, court, witnesses and undertaking your own liability investigations.  

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Predominantly PI including EL and PL
  • Advising clients
  • Dealing mainly with litigated fast track cases and assisting and/or working on multi track cases (depending on experience)
  • Complete MI procedures as and when required
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targets
  • Ensure relevant deadlines, SLAs, quality measures and KPI’s are adhered to
  • Comply with relevant policies and procedures
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

You may also be required to carry out tasks that fall within the wider remit of the role.

About You

 

You will have previous experience and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above area of work. As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also require you to have/be:

  • Qualified lawyer (or equivalent)  0-3YRS PQE
  • Previous experience at managing defendant EL/PL casualty claims is essential
  • Working knowledge of PL and EL law
  • Experience of handling own casualty caseload
  • Good influencing skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills

    We are currently recruiting for a Paralegal to manage a caseload of motor cases for the fast track and small claims team in Liverpool or Manchester

    Main duties and responsibilities

    • Manage caseload effectively and efficiently
    • Initially review liability, quantum and Claimant Solicitor conduct before devising a strategy for continued handling;
    • Handle cases to conclusion including instructing investigators, posing Part 35 questions, instructing Counsel and making Part 36 offers;
    • Complete client and firm MI procedures
    • Comply with client SLAs, e-manual and local claims handling requirements
    • Achieve set chargeable hours and financial targets
    • Comply with Data Protection Procedures
