Job description

Morgan Hunt currently require a Shift Maintenance Assistants/Handypersons for NHS based in Bristol.

Pay Rate: £15ph Ltd - Weekdays/ £19.50ph Nights Weekday/ Sat All Day/ £22.50ph Sun All Day

Hours: Shifts Pattern on Rota Days & Night

Location: Bristol

Duration 6 months on going contract

Job purpose

To carry out the day-to-day boiler house duties and assist Shift Engineers with their reactive and PPM tasks. You will also be required to work alone on weekend nights and when the shift engineer is on A/L or sickness. Whilst working alone you will carry a PDA and pager and will be the first response to any reactive works which are requested. You will be expected to carry out basic tasks which befit a band 3 maintenance person duty.

You will be required to work in workshops, plant rooms, service ducts and equipment enclosures. In addition you will be expected to work in wards, theatres, pathology rooms and laboratories, together with mortuaries and autopsy rooms.

Boiler house duties will include the following.

• Daily readings of steam/water/gas/electric meters.
• Daily boiler gauge glass blowdown.
• Daily water testing which include water softness, PH and sulphite of boiler water.
• Daily entering of boiler house test results in log book.
• Daily monitoring of boilers ensuring that stand-by boilers are brought up to operating pressure.
• Weekly boiler evaporation tests on all operational boilers
• Weekly TDS readings of all operational boilers.
• Weekly entering of boiler house test results in log book
• 3 monthly testing of boilers from gas to gas-oil.

In addition, you will be expected to undertake work tasks which may be new to you which befits a band 3, for which training will be provided

The shift pattern to be worked consists of;

Week One:

Split, currently 9 hours day shift on Tuesday and Wednesday, although these days will be flexible depending on workloads - 0800am until 20:00pm Saturday and Sunday.

Week Two:

Lates - Tuesday to Friday 1200pm until 22:00pm.

Week Three:

Nights - Monday to Thursday 22:00pm until 07:00am and Friday 22:00pm until 08:00am

This is a repeating pattern throughout the year.

Main duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibiliites

• To assist shift engineers on PPM's and reactive works outside of core hours.
• To carry out boiler house duties and to report to Team Leader with any issues which cannot be resolved.
• Support the supervisor to ensure efficient and safe working of all plant on site.
• Attend fire calls.
• To physically carry out manual work using safe working practice.
• To work within the Estates Department Health & Safety policies
• Provide holiday and sickness cover as required, including short notice.
• To be first response to reactive works site wide during Weekend nights.
