Job description

The YMCA St Paul's Group are looking to recruit a Duty Officer based in Kingston to provide a welcome and information point to all visitors, guests, members and telephone callers to the Association, and to assist Duty Staff in the management of the centre, particularly controlling 'people traffic' in the reception area.

Assist in the running of the café/reception area and functions at Hawker Centre by providing excellent customer service, preparing and serving simple cafe food and drinks; maximise income and customer satisfaction within the Café and reception; keep all areas clean and well stocked, whilst working on your own or with others.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • To be responsible for welcoming all persons arriving at the building, providing information on services / facilities available and for passing enquiries on to other staff as appropriate.
  • To inform Duty Staff of unusual situations or emergencies and to support the Duty Staff in emergency procedures as appropriate.
  • Ensure that the Reception area is tidy, welcoming and that information displayed is up-to-date at all times.
  • Undertake bookings and fee receipt transactions for the Programme Department (membership, classes, fitness and childcare).
  • Prepare and serve café style food as required, following procedures, or inform catering / reception staff of any orders made by customers.
  • Ensure portion control for orders you prepare or serve.
  • Work effectively when alone or with others, to maximise sales and customer satisfaction.

Applicants must have

  • Experience of cash handling, credit card transactions and reconciling tills
  • Experience of working in an environment providing a service to the public and customer care experience
  • Experience of dealing with emergencies, challenging situations and people
  • Understanding of child protection and adult safeguarding issues, and Association procedures
  • Hold or willing to work towards being a qualified First Aid Appointed Person
