Job description

We have a current opportunity for a Head of Estates on a temporary basis. The position will be based in Central / Inner North London (Zone 1). For further information about this position please apply. They are looking at a temp or possibly perm role.

Main Purpose

· To contribute to the strategic direction and operational effectiveness of Freedom from Torture by developing and maintaining estates and facilities function across the organization.

· To manage and improve a proactive Health and Safety process throughout all Freedom from Torture's centres.

· To manage Facilities and London Reception teams


Taking the lead role on all matters relating to facilities management, Health & safety and the environment. Freedom from Torture has five centres in England and Scotland and so travel will be required.

Decision making & level of authority

Under the broad directions of the Director of Finance and Central Services, the post holder will need to make daily decisions using their own judgement, as well as developing and implementing the annual operating plan for the function.

Duties & Key Responsibilities

1) Develop, implement and manage an agile working strategy and associated polices

2) Line manage the Reception Team Leader and Facilities Officers (all based in the London centre)

3) Responsible for the Health & Safety of the organisation. Reviewing and writing the policy, arrangements and associated forms relating to the arrangements. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation to ensure effective procedures are in place.

4)Responsible for managing the Health and Safety Committee, writing reports, including annual reviews, and ensuring a planned rolling program of reviews are in place and the recommendations of which are implemented.

5)Set up and manage through service level agreements, contracts with suppliers for cleaning, security and plan preventive management (PPM).

6)Lead on and manage the strategic and day to day maintenance of all Freedom from Torture buildings to ensure they are all fit for purpose and the organisation has the appropriate building and contents related insurances. Manage the central procurement of all utilities and stationery

7)Project Manage any building related projects

8)Manage the estates and facilities budgets for all Freedom from Torture sites

9)Contribute to the Business Continuity plans. Responsible for implementing Business Continuity across all offices, ensuring written procedures are in place, along with a program of testing.

10)Responsible for monitoring and addressing well-being of direct reports and contributing to practices that promote employee well-being organisation wide.
