Job description

We have a current opportunity for a H&S Manager on a permanent basis.

MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION

Reporting directly to the Head of Visitor Operations, The Health and Safety Manager will be instrumental in developing the Roundhouse's safety culture, building on existing systems which support the safe and secure operation of our iconic venue. The Health and Safety Manager will proactively review all procedures, audit reports and reporting structures to ensure we have an evolving approach to the way we operate in a post-covid environment.

The Health and Safety Manager will support the Head of Visitor Operations in ensuring the venue is best placed to navigate the challenges of operating a dynamic live entertainment venue. With responsibility for preparing the venue for all external audits, including carrying out any recommendations from previous reports, the post holder will communicate the actions from all audits in a way that is understood by the wider organisation and that encourages all departments to take responsibility for their roles in the Safety Management Plan.

Management of Health and Safety

  • To advise the Directors and Managers on all safety, health and welfare matters to ensure the organisation complies with its statutory obligations and HASAWA 1974 and associated regulations.
  • To promote the highest standards of Health and Safety across all departments and projects.
  • To develop and embed safety management systems in this area, ensuring that documentation is current and appropriate, and that contractors meet Roundhouse standards in this respect.
  • Organise regular testing of equipment and thorough examinations/inspections in line with LOLER and PUWER regulations across all departments
  • Work with the Senior Visitor Operations Manager to review duty management processes to ensure they are robust and thorough and cover all aspects of estate safety in a live situation
  • Implement monthly safety inspections to be carried out by all operational departments
  • Review the company Incident Investigation Procedure to ensure all incidents are being investigated thoroughly and preventative actions carried out and logged
  • Develop a defined schedule of responsibilities for all managers and Senior Management Team with responsibility for Health and Safety in their department
  • Work with Heads of Department to review safe systems of work to ensure they are in line with current practice and fit for purpose
  • Develop and roll out a training matrix for health and safety training programmes and inductions and maintain the Training Needs Analysis
  • Work with all Heads of Department to implement all necessary H&S related improvements in line with agreed budget frameworks
  • Introduce Site H&S KPIs to be rolled out to all Operational Departments
  • Attend Monthly H&S Committee meetings and report on progress updates and any relevant developments
  • To advise staff in other areas on safety matters as appropriate.
  • To ensure that the Roundhouse environment conforms to all relevant standards as set down by the organisation and/or legislation.

Risk Assessment and Audits

  • Monitor and implement all recommendations from Health and Safety audits and in a timeline agreed with the Head of Visitor Operations.
  • Review Fire Risk Assessments and work alongside the Head of Estate to implement all recommendations
  • Review the Working at Height Audit and implement appropriate recommendations and Safe Systems of Work in agreement with the Head of Estate and Head of Technical and Production
  • Develop a centralised COSHH Register and associated Risk Assessments in conjunction with the departments which use substances covered by COSHH regulations
  • Maintain the Risk Reduction Plan which includes a Risk Register, Hazard Log and actions associated
  • Review current company First Aid Risk Assessment and implement any necessary updates
  • To review and make recommendations relating to method statements, risk assessments and operating procedures and to contribute to the Operating Plans and Health and Safety Policy as required by the Head of Estate.
  • Support the development and regular review of suitable and sufficient Risk Assessments across all departments.
