Youth Engagement Officer

Job description

Job Purpose

To provide an excellent engagement service to the Young People (18-24 years) in our project. To plan and carry out activities and workshops in consultation with the young people to provide them with an all-inclusive service that runs alongside the support service.

The Young People's Project are part of YMCA Walthamstow's Housing department. The Housing department also has a Supported Housing team who work with 300 residents providing support and accommodation in a mixture of hostel, bedsit and shared house accommodation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To engage with the residents to plan and organise activities and workshops that meet their needs and aspirations.
  • To provide and engagement service that compliments the support service being provided.
  • Encourage and empower the residents to be involved in the project and to be able to influence the services provided.
  • Work with and for the residents to support them with skills to help them move on and live independent lives.
  • Set up and facilitate resident meetings.
  • Off site activities / trips, to set up, plan, arrange and attend.
  • Work within Budgets set.
  • Help support the project in terms of looking for and applying for funding


  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation including Safeguarding, Confidentiality, Data Protection and Health and Safety guidelines and policies. Oversee all information provided to statutory agencies.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties at the request of line managers.
  • To be aware of confidentiality issues and not get into situations where you may receive information which cannot be passed on.
  • Attend all relevant training and development programmes.
  • Undertake all duties with regard to the Association's Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy and other policies and procedures adopted by the Association.
  • Respect the Christian ethos of the YMCA and uphold its values.
  • Work as a member of the team and provide support as required to colleagues; participate in team meetings and training provided; wear uniform/protective clothing and staff badge as supplied by the Association.

This role is based in the East London area for 10 hours per week with a pay rate of £6760 per annum. If you would be interested please get in contact to apply.
