We have a current opportunity for a Assistant Building Services Manager on a permanent basis. The salary range is £40-45,000 per annum and the role will be to support the Head of Building Services deliver a high level of service to the various college buildings and sites. Reporting to the Building Services Manager, the postholder will be responsible in assisting with the overall management of the estate's operations (building, engineering, maintenance, fabric maintenance, fire, and estates informatics) across the Capital City College Group (CCCG) sites.

The postholder shall assisting with ensuring the delivery of the service within the allocated budget, whilst identifying divisional pressures and contributing to the CCCG overall savings and business improvement plan.

The postholder shall assisting with liaising with the CCCG senior management team and support services team to develop the services in accordance with all relevant standards, mandatory controls and CCCG's corporate policies and strategies.

The postholder shall assisting with providing expert specialist and professional construction, building and or engineering advice to members of the estates and facilities department, CCCG senior management team, site senior curriculum team, and other associated stakeholders.

The postholder will have the expert knowledge and specialised technical training to safely manage the full range of building and engineering services across the CCCG sites.

The Assistant Building Services Manager is to work with the Building Services Manager, to ensure that the highest quality of service delivery is maintained and to ensure that Staff and Students see a one team approach to the delivery of estates & facilities services. This will be measured by reference to the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system, structured review of compliments and complaints, and routine feedback from line management.

The postholder will deputise for the Building Services Manager by attending relevant committees, working groups, project teams, presenting information etc.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Delivery of the mechanical, electrical, BMS and building fabric services across the CCCG sites in terms of safety, quality, and environmental impact. To ensure that the service delivery team is trained and competent for the roles for which they are responsible as well as conformance with CCCG's environmental and Health & Safety requirement and to manage an upskilling programme for all staff.
  • Assist with Ensuring the building services division operates a well-managed operationally effective service, having in place robust and efficient systems and processes relating to all activities.
  • Assist with contribution as part of the department management team to CCCG's Estates Condition & Statutory Investment Plan advising on capital investment in the estate within a framework which is aware of the future estate strategy and development proposals.
  • Assist with managing departmental budget, identifying resource requirements and controlling expenditure within their allocated budget, including achievement of income targets and the identification and delivery of identified savings and business improvement initiatives (which shall include service innovations).
  • Assist with preparing Service Development Plans for the Building Services Division, demonstrating vision in relation to sustained development of a client centred service.
  • Assist with ensuring statutory and regulatory compliance is identified, met and recorded in respect of the inspection, maintenance, and compliance of the estate. Performs the role of "Authorised Person" including:
    • Pressure vessels and systems.
    • Traction & Hydraulic Lift Stock.
    • Medical Gas Pipeline Systems.
    • High and low voltage electrical system safety.
    • Emergency electricity generation.
    • Portable electrical appliance safety.
    • Hot and Cold-water systems and systems at risk of incubating legionellae.
    • Natural gas distribution systems.
    • Boiler plant, steam generation and distribution.
    • Ventilation and air conditioning systems.
    • Decontamination (Sterilisation equipment).
