Job description

We are proud to be working with the Old Naval College in Greenwich to help find an Estates Operations Manager on a permanent basis.

Job Purpose:

To manage the practical and administrative aspects for the site operation and set up of events and filming at the Old Royal Naval College site.

To take the lead in the promotion and management of Health and Safety on site.

To provide cover to the Department as agreed with the Line Manager, or above.


  1. Particular to this post:

1.1 Estate Operations/Events

  • Provide advice and assistance to ensure that event run smoothly without risk to the buildings or site users
  • Liaise with external events organisers to ensure that they provide method statements and risk assessments prior to events and that they then comply with the Foundation's requirements to protect the buildings and the safety of site users
  • Provide adequate supervision for even set up to ensure compliance with agreed method statements
  • Liaise with the Visitor Experience, Commercial, Learning and Interpretation and Grounds Maintenance teams, and catering managers to ensure that furniture and equipment is available and correctly sited for events and activities.
  • Work with the Head of Facilities to provide assistance to contractors working on site, ensuring that they operate safely and are aware of the fragile nature of the buildings and grounds.
  • On a rotational basis with other senior staff, act as duty manager for the site on a 24 hour call our basis.
  • Attend diary meetings and liaise with other site users to avoid conflicts arising from events
  • Liaise with Site tenants, providing such information so as to agree on a schedule of activities

1.2 Estate Operations/Overseeing film crew's activities

  • Assist the Head of Facilities in meeting prospective filming clients and discuss the site and technical requirements for their filming
  • Ensure that the Foundation's health and safety requirements and other specific site consideration are brought to the attention of film makers, prior to confirming a hire
  • Negotiate and agree a Schedule of activities, special terms, etc prior to issuing a licence
  • Work with film crews to ensure that the site fulfils their expectations and provide a degree of flexibility to deal with the unexpected, while ensuring that filming is undertaken safely
  • Provide adequate supervision of filming to ensure compliance with agreed method statements and avoid risk of damage to the buildings and grounds or injury to persons
  • Liaise with the site tenants to ensure agreement on film schedules and minimise disruption to the site.
  • Provide full documentation/administration services for the compilation of records including risk assessment, method statements, contract details etc.
