Job description

 

Job Purpose

The role requires outstanding leadership and management skills to ensure that all learners achieve their maximum potential and that management teams and staff are effectively supported, directed and performance managed.

The Head of Teaching and Learning will have responsibility for co-ordinating and managing the College’s quality improvement processes and initiatives with Curriculum Teams to improve overall performance and quality outcomes in line with current inspectorate and funding body requirements, including:

To co-ordinate, manage and oversee the observation cycle across college and its partners

To quality improvement process for teaching, learning and assessment across the College with curriculum teams and with partners.

To analyse the appropriate data sets to identify themes and actions to ensure appropriate and timely impact of improvement and innovation in TLA

To lead the observation process to improve the quality of TLA delivery

To manage a team of staff allocated (TLCs) to improve and innovate teaching and learning practices

To manage the e-learning team to develop and support teacher practice

To manage the delivery of Teacher Training qualifications across college

The post holder is expected to take the lead in developing outstanding teaching and learning and will act as a role model to all other staff. This post holder will also play a role in supporting Quality Assurance monitoring to meet awarding body standards as needed.

There are no teaching hours allocated to this post.

Aims of the Post:

  1. To support the development of excellence in teaching, learning and assessment across the college and its partners
  2. To ensure those directly involved in teaching and learning are consistently delivering to current professional standards.
  3. To ensure that classroom activities accord with the College’s standards for teaching and learning.
  4. To ensure those directly involved in teaching, learning and assessment are consistently delivering to current professional standards.
  5. To lead on innovation in areas of e-learning and development of online tracking and blended learning models
  6. To support on QA processes across the college in association with the Quality Standards & Compliance Manager especially around Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training delivery

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manage effectively to deliver agreed targets, objectives and oversight of teacher training

 

  1. To manage the performance of staff within the department according to College processes and procedures (induction, probation, performance, appraisal) and address underperformance where necessary

 

  1. To conduct, support and provide developmental and graded observations and feedback to teachers and others directly involved in student learning and assessment

 

  1. To ensure the rigorous implementation of designated quality improvement procedures and have overview of the self-assessment process and quality improvement plans according to College requirements and deadlines for teaching and learning aspects

 

  1. To enrich the experience of students through the development of innovative and creative approaches to the delivery of teaching, learning and assessment through observation and professional development

 

  1. To increase levels of student satisfaction by providing support and advice to teaching staff on the delivery of specifics, curriculum planning, assessment, internal verification and the production and maintenance of associated Quality Framework documents.

 

  1. To drive a ‘business approach’ across via critical reflection of standards against the service area SLA and agreed KPIs including Learner Voice.

 

  1. To support and develop a lively, current and educationally engaging and high quality teaching and learning ment for students

 

  1. To use management information and data to monitor and improve the quality of teaching, learning and assessment.

 

  1. To drive up standards of teaching learning by encouraging innovation and good practice against college and sector wide standards and expectations

 

  1. To promote and facilitate a culture of continuous professional development and improvement across college in aspects of the quality of education within curriculum

 

  1. Collaborate with other areas of the College and external providers as required to support quality improvement and innovation in TLA and e-learning

 

  1. Ensure the safeguarding of students is understood and embedded

 

  1. To further develop and embed equality of opportunity and to maximise the diversity of both staff and students.

 

  1. To contribute to the effective management of the college via the College Management team and other relevant forums.

 

  1. Have oversight of college e-learning strategy for innovation and implementation in classroom and teacher practices

 

  1. Further promote, develop and embed equality of opportunity, prevent discrimination and maximise the diversity of both staff and students.

 

  1. Ensure Health and Safety policy and procedures are followed at all times and that good practice is embedded throughout all aspects of the Curriculum Area and the College.

Person Specification

The following qualities are all deemed essential to the requirements of the post. The College will, therefore, be seeking evidence of these in the selection process, which will include a supporting statement.

 

The College is seeking to appoint highly skilled, dynamic, flexible and committed people with the potential to help us realise our mission and strategic objectives. The appointing panel will, therefore, require sufficient evidence of ability and achievement in each of the following areas in order to make an appointment.

​Qualifications

  • Qualified to at least graduate level (or equivalent professional qualification)
  • Full Teaching qualification
  • A1/V1 Verifiers Award (desirable)
  • Level 2 English and Maths (or equivalent)

 

A Good Understanding of and Strong Commitment to:

  • A business-like and customer focused approach to education and training

​Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • A track record of supporting teachers and managers in improving and innovating staff practices in standards in Quality Improvement via formal observation and action plans and CPD
  • Experience of upholding highest standards in quality assurance in line with awarding body expectations
  • Setting a culture of a high expectation of performance ensuring achievement of excellent standards of teaching and learning
  • Knowledge and understanding of Quality Improvement and performance management
  • Experience of developing teaching and the use of innovative approaches to teaching and learning to raise standards in teaching, learning and assessment
  • An understanding of the FE sector and the administrative demands required to ensure the maximisation of success
  • Delivering high quality teaching and learning activities in role as a educational professional
  • Working with OFSTED Education Inspection framework
  • Experience of delivering high quality CPD/Inset and coaching to support improvement in standards
  • Skills in e-learning delivery and development of systems and staff
  • Knowledge of the Pearson Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training and the Award in Education & Training
