Group Payroll Manager

Permanent

Orpington with travel to other sites when required

£53,365 - £58,305 per annum

Full Time

Morgan Hunt are working with a College who are currently recruiting for a Group Payroll Manager to join their team on a full time, permanent basis.

Responsibilities:

Some of your duties and responsibilities as a Group Payroll Manager will include:

  • Ensure high quality Payroll provision is provided across the Group consisting of the College and Multi Academy Trust.
  • Provide a professional, efficient and effective payroll administration service across the Group
  • Manage the delivery of payroll ensuring that they are accurately calculated and recorded and that salaries are paid on the due date, ensuring that Payslips are posted to ESS/distributed on a timely basis.
  • Complete the End of Year statutory returns required by HMRC, TPS, LGPS, NEST and other pensions agencies for authorisation and submission.
  • Ensure all pensions administration is accurate and all statutory reporting deadlines and requirements are achieved.
  • Ensure that 3rd party payments are made accurately and on time, along with any relevant schedules.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting to support Finance.
  • Supervise the Senior Payroll Officer and the Payroll Officer.
  • Input and reconcile payroll data. Start, amend and finish employees. Administer and calculate supply and variable staff rates, overtime, SSP, SMP, Pensions and other adjustments.
  • Accurately complete monthly payroll, complete all statutory and regulatory monthly and annual returns required by HMRC, TPS, LGPS, NEST and other pension agencies. Issue appropriate documentation to staff including P45s, P60's and P11ds.
  • Responsible for the accurate administration of all pensions and the resolution of pension related queries from staff and pension agencies ensuing set KPIs are met
  • Prioritise and organise workload to meet statutory and Group deadlines.
  • Produce detailed management reports as required by the Group Director of Finance, Group Chief People Officer and other Senior Managers.
  • Be the main point of reference for staff who have payroll and pension queries ensuring resolution within KPIs.
  • Responsible for the preparation of pension forms, leaver forms, year-end pension returns and to liaise with the TPS, LGPS, NEST and other pension providers as necessary.
  • Ensure all pay and expense claims are paid in accordance with College and Multi-Academy Trust policy.
  • Request and process salary advances, repayments and updating the over payments reports monthly
  • Work with the HRIS Data Manager ensuring all Payroll module changes, updates and testing on iTrent is carried out accurately.
  • Keep up to date with new payroll and pension legislation.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality of information relating to the Group and its staff and maintain compliance with the Data Protection Act.
  • Work with HR colleagues to develop a high-quality HR service.
  • Contribute to both internal HR quality processes (SAR) and external quality measures e.g. IIP, TQS
  • Provide the HR Director (Colleges) with regular reports on HR activity against agreed targets.
  • Deal with day-to-day general enquiries in an efficient and respectful manner which supports targets associated with excellent customer service.
  • Support the development of policies and procedures and Payroll and HR practices/systems through maintaining up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation
  • Carry out such other duties as may be reasonably requested by the line manager, or any senior manager

Requirements:

  • A Payroll / Financial Qualification, with the willingness to study further and attend payroll update courses.
  • Excellent numeracy, literacy and IT skills.
  • Possess an advanced knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Payroll background
  • Pension Administration background (desirable)
  • Previously worked within an FE / School environment (desirable)
  • Working experience payroll procedures, issues and regulations.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of SSP and SMP/SPP regulations and procedures.
  • Previously managed a team (desirable)
  • Work within defined financial policies and procedures and best practice.
  • Previously supported organisational change
  • Working knowledge of i-Trent (desirable)
  • Able to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise multiple strict deadlines
  • Excellent customer service skills including a professional approach
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to use own initiative and be solution focused
  • Be aware of the importance of keeping records and information confidential at all times.
