Senior Communications Officer

Morgan Hunt is working with a London based Higher Education organisation who are looking for a Senior Communications Officer. The perfect candidate will be an integral part of the communications, Marketing and events team. Closely liaising with the press office and stakeholders to develop communication strategies and to raise the profile of the organisation. This hybrid permanent role is based in central London and the salary is £40,745 - £47,047.

Key Responsibilities of the new Senior Communications Officer:

  • Keep in regular contact with staff members across the organisation to keep abreast of latest developments in each area, including the promotion of research, academic expertise and staff, student and alumni success.
  • Liaise with events officers and marketing executives and develop communication strategies for each event where appropriate, to include writing stories for the website, inviting journalists and other stakeholders to attend events, providing social media coverage and producing multimedia content
  • Develop useful working relationships with relevant journalists to place articles, plan editorial contributions and work in collaboration with them.
  • Understand the role of social media in reputation management, to support the Head of Communications and Events and PR and Communications Manager in ensuring that potentially damaging news and issues are handled in a sensitive and appropriate manner.
  • Monitor the media on a daily basis, alert the Communications colleagues as appropriate and act so, ensuring that activity is supported in a timely, positive and sensitive manner.
  • Identify other opportunities for profile raising such as award entries, conferences, spokesperson roles or round table discussions.

Previous Skills and Experience of the new Senior Communications officer:

  • Significant experience either working as a Press Officer, a journalist or in an agency on external PR in a pressurised environment, preferably in the fields of Finance, Business or Education.
  • Demonstrable experience of generating high profile media coverage for research or similarly complex material
  • Experience of working with senior academic staff and or equivalent high-profile individuals.
  • Proficient in the generation of multimedia content such as photography, video and/or audio
