Morgan Hunt require a Fire Safety Officer for NHS based in Central London
Pay Rate: £27ph PAYE or £30ph Ltd
Hours 37.5 9am to 5pm Mon to Fri
Location: Central London
Duration: 6 months on going contract
Scope of the role
The candidate will be required to support the Fire, Health & Safety team by ensuring the efficient operation, planning and development of the Fire Safety Services, ensuring these functions are carried out to nationally agreed and recognised standards for the benefit of patients, visitors and trust staff.
Main duties and responsibilities
- The candidate holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all operational Fire
Safety matters within the Trust.
- To provide specialist fire advice on a day-to-day basis and fulfil the role of a competent person in accordance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order 2005 and HTM 05-03
- To lead on providing independent advice to the Trust on the interpretation and application of
all fire safety regulations
- Lead on the development and implementation of fire policies and plans within the Trust
- To work closely with the Estates & Facilities teams ensuring effective fire safety throughout
the Trust
- Liaise with the legal team on any Fire incidents which may have the potential to become legal
claims whether through Third Party Liability, Personal Injury or Property expenses litigation
- Ensure that financial or legal consequences of Fire, Health and Safety related issues are
appropriately escalated / reported
- Liaise with and report to statutory bodies including the Fire Authority, Health and Safety
Executive and Environmental Health Department
- To be the Trust's advisor and lead on the reduction of unwanted fire signals and fires being guided by the national targets set by the Department of Health. This aspect of the role in particular will involve liaison with external partners such as the London Fire Brigade (LFB)
- Assist the Head of Service with the development and management of a Fire Risk Management system, to monitor compliance with the policies and standards and to initiate, where necessary, actions and reports to maintain such compliance
- Provide expert advice and leadership on matters relating to non-clinical risk assessment, risk management and mitigation within the Trust, including fire safety, ensuring that these issues remain a priority for directors, senior managers, clinical and non-clinical staff. Undertake complex risk assessments on behalf of staff/departments where required and necessary
- Review and analyse Fire related incident reports concerning staff, service users and members of the public, maintaining confidentiality as necessary and providing post incident support and advice as required by the Head of Fire, Health & Safety
- To be responsible for advising and ensuring the adequate provision of equipment, training
and protocols to ensure that the evacuations of all persons in the event of an emergency are in place, tested and serviced
- Undertake risk assessments and produce and manage a Fire Risk Register to record the status of fire detection, alarms and means of escape
- To ensure the effective management of risk through the development, implementation and monitoring of fire related policies and procedures which meet legislative and other best practice requirements
- To maintain accurate records of all fire incidents, investigations and unwanted fire signals
- To review the service provided on a regular basis using customer surveys and other
mechanisms to ensure it continues to meet the needs of patients, visitors and staff.
