Offering £39,000 to £46,000 Per Annum

9 month FTC maternity Cover

I have an exciting opportunity for an experienced IT Project Support Officer to join one of the top Higher Education organisations in the UK on an interim basis. This role is responsible for delivering work packages and IT projects from planning stage through to service transition within Infrastructure and Operations including cyber security activities.

Role responsibilities:

  • Deliver work packages of IT operational infrastructure projects from initiation to implementation to agreed scope, timelines and allocated budget, only escalating to the Project Sponsor when the predefined tolerances are breached.
  • Responsible for the project management small IT operational and infrastructure projects from initiation to implementation to agreed scope, timelines and allocated budget, only escalating to the Project Sponsor when the predefined tolerances are breached.
  • Coordinate with line mangers to ensure that projects are appropriately resourced to deliver to the agreed scope, timelines and budget.
  • Coordinate suppliers to provide appropriate third-party support for work packages or projects this includes, agreeing the work package outputs against the contract requirements, monitoring progress against timelines, budget and quality of the output escalating with the supplier where these are not being met.
  • Provide administrative support to projects as required this includes scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and meeting notes. This includes chairing meetings when agreed with the Project Sponsor (or in their absence).
  • Monitor the project plan to provide accurate reporting of the work package or project to the Project Sponsor.
  • Monitor risks and issues and identify and implement to mitigations to ensure the successful delivery of the project to agreed scope, timelines and budget and escalating to the Project Sponsor where the agreed tolerances may be breached.
  • Create and produce the service design and transition documentation for the work package or small project to enable transition into operational service.
  • Review service design and transition documentation provided by suppliers for a work package or small project to ensure that they are fit for purpose and ready for approval by the Service Manager.
  • Coordinate service transition writing handover documentation, training materials, service workflows and communication plan for end users.
  • Implement the communication plan by delivering updates to the relevant boards and committees as verbal updates, presentations or highlight reports and to end users as emails, screen savers and other approved communication methods.

A successful IT Project Support Officer will have:

  • Formal training in one or more project management methodologies such as APM, CMP, MSP, Prince2 as well as familiarity with project management tools and software or the relevant work experience
  • Ideally having experience working within the higher education sector
  • An understanding of principles, methods, techniques, and tools for the effective management of projects from initiation through to implementation
  • Understanding of standard compliance and regulatory requirements such as Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001, and PCI
  • Experience developing and implementing Information Security and Cyber controls
  • An understanding of methodologies and techniques for risk management, business impact analysis, and mitigation
  • An understanding of methods a for reporting progress and financial spend against an agreed plan
  • Significant experience of working in an office environment and using office systems
  • Significant experience of organising and supporting meetings
  • Formal training in one or more project management methodologies such as APM, CMP, MSP, Prince2 as well as familiarity with project management tools and software or the relevant work experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to form productive relationships with project team members and stakeholders
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, with the confidence to contribute ideas and updates when required
  • Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to work with minimal supervision when needed, and to prioritise and manage own work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including minute-taking
  • Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite packages (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Ability to manage suppliers and external stakeholders
