Job description

Morgan Hunt is currently working with a Government Agency in search of an interim Senior Media Relations Officer

The role is temporary for 6 months and offers a salary of up to £45,337 per annum.

This sits in a busy press team and works on a combination of reactive and proactive media work.



Role: Senior Media Relations Officer

Location: 50/50 hybrid- offices in Canary Warf

Length of Contract: 6 months fixed term

Salary: £41,673 - £45,337



Key responsibilities of the interim Senior Media Relations Officer:

  • To provide high quality media handling advice to colleagues across the organisation - both in terms of promoting the organisation's work and responding effectively to media queries or agendas.
  • To understand and appropriately identify audiences for individual projects and then advise on communicating with them effectively, taking into account the full range of communications tools and channels available.
  • To generate high quality, creative content designed to appeal to a wide range of audiences, including written work.
  • To accurately predict media agendas and respond to them effectively - acting as an authoritative, accurate spokesperson.
  • To evaluate communications work effectively, using insight gained to inform and influence future work.
  • To play a role in the out of hours duty rota and support its delivery of market sensitive announcements - this involves some work outside of core employment hours.

Previous experience and skills of the interim Senior Media Relations Officer:

  • Proven experience of managing national, regional and trade media in proactive, reactive and crisis situations, spotting reputational difficulties and ensuring the organisation is adequately prepared to respond to them.
  • Proven experience of producing high quality, engaging written work and turning this into clear and concise messaging, identifying the most relevant points for communication across varying media channels.
  • Demonstrable experience of writing and delivering high quality proactive communication plans that help to raise the profile of an organisation and promoted the benefits of its work.
  • Evidence of having built strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and persuading other (often more senior) colleagues on communications issues.
  • Ability to work independently and at pace, effectively managing work priorities to meet specified deadlines.
