Data Protection Assistant

£28000 - £30000 per annum

Job description

Morgan Hunt are currently working with one of the UK's most renowned Charities in their search for a permanent Data Protection Assistant to maintain and embed a Data Protection and Privacy Framework and culture of data choice, control and transparency across the Charity.

You will collaborate with colleagues across the Charity to ensure all our activities are compliant with privacy legislation, regulation and best practice, including the Data Protection Act 2018 (incorporating the UK General Data Protection Regulations); the Privacy and Electronic Communication Regulations (PECR); and requirements set by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

The ideal candidate for this role is a team player who is passionate about applying the data protection and privacy principles in a pragmatic manner. You will have experience within Data Protection within the Public Sector.

This is a permanent, part-time opportunity requiring 1 day per week in the London Office. You will be provided the opportunity to undertake training courses paid for by the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a culture of choice, control, and transparency in handling personal data by working with and influencing internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide advice on compliance, regulatory and risk management issues relating to data protection and privacy matters.
  • Support the Company Secretary, Corporate Services in delivering and maintaining the Charity's Privacy Management Framework.
  • Maintain the Register of Processing Activities and Personal Information Inventory
  • Undertake Data Protection Impact Assessments.
  • Ensuring that data protection risks are identified and managed.
  • Assist in the delivery of the information governance training programme.
  • Support the Company Secretary, Corporate Services in the drafting, maintaining and implementation of policies, guidance and process relating to data protection and privacy.
  • To process and respond to requests from individuals exercising their rights under data protection legislation
  • Administer the Charity's Data Security and Protection Toolkit submission on an annual basis
  • Undertake internal compliance monitoring of the Charity's compliance against data protection, privacy and related compliance areas in line with identified key performance indicators and measure
  • Maintain the Charity family's registrations with the Information Commissioners Office.
  • Administer the Charity's Internal Compliance Forum, liaising with attendees on agenda items, preparing papers and attending and minuting meetings

Person Specification

  • Experience working within Data Protection and Information Governance (ideally within the Charity/NFP Sector or Membership Body)
  • Experience of maintaining key documents such as frameworks, policies and procedures.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of Data Protection and Information Security principles and protocols.
  • Flexible and responsive with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • IT literate and fully conversant with Microsoft packages.
  • Able to inspire, influence and enthuse others.
  • Thorough and detailed approach to maintaining records.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Confident in dealing with complex situations and communicating (written and verbal) such issues clearly and succinctly to a range of audiences.
  • Ability to manage own workload and prioritise multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
