Job Title: Policy Manager

Location: London (Hybrid)

Position: FTC (9 months)

Salary: £44,835

I am working exclusively with a prestigious health care charity who are looking for a Policy Manager on a fixed term (9 month) basis. The organisation are dedicated to ensuring that Arthritis is firmly considered a health priority and work to ensure that suffers of all forms of Arthritis are supported. As a Policy Manager you will oversee the policy function at the charity. You will directly line manage 2-3 officers whilst supporting policy development and identifying new opportunities to expand the influence of the organisation. You will also collaborate with colleagues in the campaigns, public affairs and communications teams to ensure a consistent approach to policy making. My client is looking to interview candidates as soon as possible, with a view that the successful candidate will join the team at the end of August.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of UK-wide policy projects including commissioning research or surveys to ensure evidence-based policy positions and consultations.
  • Line manage two policy officers, and one public affairs officer (temporarily). Support the team to ensure projects are completed according to deadline and budget.
  • Contribute policy input to the team's business planning activities, including the development of UK-wide political campaigns and influencing plans.
  • Ensure regular horizon scanning activities, and scope new areas of policy. Monitor the policy environment and to update colleagues accordingly.
  • Establish strong external relationships, meeting stakeholders in line with policy priorities. Network through attendance at meetings, events and conferences. Represent the charity on external policy groups.
  • Support internal and external communication of policy work by proactively contributing content, including for social media and websites.
  • Provide policy input and advice to other parts of the charity, including participation in cross organisational events and working groups.

Essential Criteria

  • Knowledge and recent experience gained from work within a health policy team. Experience of influencing policy and knowledge of methods used in policy development.
  • Line management experience, or experience of mentoring or coaching junior colleagues.
  • Understanding of current policy issues relevant to people with long-term conditions or disability, including health care policy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong analytical skills. Good attention to detail, consistently produces accurate work.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and work to deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within teams .
  • Strong experience of building and developing productive relationships with stakeholders.
