Job Title: Competence Development Lead

Job Type: Permanent (Part Time)

Location: London (Hybrid)

Salary: £ 50,454 (pro rata)

I am working with a membership body which champions the skills and people within the counselling profession. This organisation is looking for a 'Competence Development Lead' on a part-time permanent basis. In this role, you will work closely with the Head of Professional Standards to design and implement a strategy towards an evidence-based curricula for training, ethics and professional standards for counsellors and psychotherapists.

Key Responsibilities

  • To act as the single point of accountability for the organisation's competence and training curricula development and dissemination
  • To provide leadership and strategic direction to the competence development team; ensure all competence projects are aligned and consistent with the organisation's strategy and the Professional Standards tactical plan
  • To provide line management to the competence development team to ensure high standards and successful outcomes
  • To advise the Head of Standards in the development and delivery of the Professional Standards strategy through leading on the development and implementation of evidence-based standards of training and practice that define competence and scope of practice, including influencing future developments and strategic direction
  • To lead on the development, delivery and dissemination of a rolling programme of evidence-based competence frameworks (and associated curricula as required), practice and training standards according to the agreed evidence-based competency framework development process and robust research methodologies
  • To assist the Accreditation Lead and PS Operations Manager by leading on the development, delivery and dissemination of a suite of accreditation and approved qualification schemes underpinned by evidence-based competence frameworks and curricula and ensuring alignment with all PS workstreams
  • To be responsible for managing and tracking competence development project budgets, escalating any budget concerns to the Operations Manager and the HoPS in a timely manner.

Essential Criteria

  • Educated to MSc/MA level in counselling/psychotherapy with knowledge of a range of counselling modalities
  • BACP accredited (or equivalent) counsellor/psychotherapist
  • Experienced trainer in counselling/psychotherapy practitioner training with knowledge and experience of quality assurance schemes relating to individual practitioners, organisations and training courses
  • Experienced researcher with experience in undertaking literature reviews, qualitative research and thematic analysis
  • Experienced in the development of counselling/psychotherapy competences, training curricula, learning outcomes, assessment criteria and training materials
  • Knowledge of contemporary education issues and qualification frameworks
  • Experience of leading a diverse team, managing performance and employee engagement
  • Experienced in planning, organising and managing complex projects, delivering to deadlines, coupled with the ability to be adaptable and flexible
  • Experienced in setting and managing budgets
  • Data collection and data analysis skills, with an attention to detail
  • Excellent inter-personal skills with an ability to present, communicate and engage at all levels either in person or using telephone/video conferencing.
  • Ability to establish rapport with key stakeholders and to facilitate good working relationships.
