Morgan Hunt is proud to be partnering with the Association of British Insurers (ABI) in their search for a Public Affairs Advisor. The organisation is the voice of the UK's world-leading insurance and long-term savings industry. As a Public Affairs Advisor, you will work in collaboration with the External Affairs and across the wider organisation to expand its profile and influence. You will engage with ABI members of the organisation as well as senior stakeholders across Westminster to achieve positive policy outcomes. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with an interest in financial services, looking to extend their public affairs experience within a reputable trade association.
Key Responsibilities
- To work collaboratively with senior staff in conducting political engagement and legislative monitoring of a range of policy issues impacting association members including pensions, long-term savings, general insurance, climate change and post-Brexit regulatory reform.
- Lobby for positive legislative reform in the interests of association members, with consideration of the organisation's commercial and strategic objectives.
- Develop high-quality materials for internal and external stakeholders such as briefings ahead of Parliamentary debates, responding to Parliamentary Questions and Ministerial Statements, helping co-ordinate the ABI's work on legislation, Select Committee Inquiries, Government consultations and All Party Parliamentary Groups.
- Oversee a programme of stakeholder and parliamentary engagement, representing the ABI and insurance industry whilst building long lasting professional relationships with Parliamentarians, government officials and wider stakeholders.
- Perform horizon scanning and Parliamentary activity monitoring to ensure ABI staff receive accurate political information and can respond to Parliamentary developments accordingly.
Person Specification
- Strong written and verbal communications skills with an ability to communicate information effectively with a diverse range of audiences.
- A strong understanding of public affairs and Parliamentary procedure, with an ability to lobby effectively for legislative change.
- An ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues to develop Parliamentarian and stakeholder engagement with the commercial interests of an organisation in mind.
- An ability to identify new opportunities to expand the scope and influence of an organisation's presence whilst communicating policy developments to colleagues.
- A good understanding of the inner workings of a trade association, with an ability to engage effectively with members whilst representing their interests effectively.
