Morgan Hunt is proud to be partnering with a regulator in the legal services sector. My client is looking for a 'Senior Policy Officer' on a permanent basis. As a 'Senior Policy Officer' you will join the newly established Technology and Innovation policy group and play a significant role in shaping efforts to encourage responsible uptake of technology and innovative practices within the legal services sector. You will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of policy initiatives to support innovative uses of technology within the legal services sector, leveraging the opportunities it presents in the profession while mitigating the risks. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the creation and implementation of various policy initiatives in line with the regulator's Policy Development Framework. This may include a project to pilot a new legal technology relevant to legal professional's practice, evaluate and address benefits and regulatory issues it may pose, and support professionals in its uptake and responsible use.
  • Engage with the LegalTech ecosystem, other regulators, and the legal profession community to identify opportunities for innovation and technology uptake that advance regulatory objectives.
  • Champion the technology and innovation work programme with external and internal stakeholder groups to build trust, educate, and encourage responsible innovation, including through written content (blogs, social media, papers) and events.
  • Commissioning or conducting research projects on the use of technology and innovative practices within the legal services sector to establish a strong evidence base for policy formulation.
  • Considering the impacts of policy changes on other areas (e.g. training requirements, enforcement policy, monitoring and supervision), co-ordinating discussions with other teams or external stakeholders.

Person Specification

  • Understanding of the legal services or technology environments and interest in issues relating to professional practice, risk and regulation.
  • Well-developed strategic thinking and analytical skills, including the ability to source and interpret complex data.
  • Policy development, implementation and evaluation experience from other regulators, regulated sectors, government or consultancies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of drafting a range of materials for a variety of audiences including consultation papers, reports, Board/ Committee papers, briefings and articles as well as public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail with strong project and time management skills and able to work to tight deadlines
