Job description

We have a current opportunity for a Project Manager on a contract basis with our public sector client in Glasgow for an initial 6 month contract. They require someone for only 3 days a week.

Rate: £400-£425pd, Inside IR35

The Project Manager role will report to the Data Governance Manager, within the Planning, Insights & Analytics (PIA) directorate, working in partnership with Information Services and the Programme Delivery directorate. You will provide Project Management and Business Analysis skills to manage and drive the work of the team who are delivering on a programme of significant process, system and data changes to support the staff and student experience.

Other Duties;

  • Responsible for the delivery of projects: within agreed timescales, budgets and scope: following the University approach for project initiation; planning, documentation, control and reporting.
  • Responsible for managing a workstream(s) within a large programme - organisational, process, systems, or data driven - across the organisation. Administration of all project related documentation and where necessary, reporting to Project Boards or steering group.
  • Management of workstream or project staff resources for project teams often including external parties: developing plans for the delivery of required work and allocating the work according to resource type required, availability and skills; monitoring progress of work against plan, evaluating alternatives and initiating corrective action when required.
  • Communication with all relevant sponsor and stakeholder communities, including consultation and management of expectations; engaging and managing stakeholders from across the organisation, including academics, senior colleagues to operational staff to ensure clarity in the delivery of key project communications, including project or workstream status and any emerging risks or issues for their Project or workstream.
  • Deployment of organisation risk policy to identify, assess, monitor, and actively manage risks, whether in a small standalone project or as part of a larger team supporting workstreams across a complex programme.
  • Deliver timely and meaningful project reporting materials to the appropriate governance vehicles; including to the Data Governance Manager, Chief Data Officer or the Project Sponsor as relevant to the work being managed.

Skills/Experiences;

  • Experience of end-to-end project delivery

  • Thorough knowledge of the project lifecycle and common work practices and approaches for project management

  • Ability to build project plans and ensure these are agreed and communicated with the project team, project board and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proven people management skills and motivational skills in formal and informal situations.

  • Effective writing and communication skills to produce clear project management documents and sponsor and stakeholder focused content

  • Relevant experience of managing projects across the full project lifecycle

  • Using Microsoft Project software, Agile tools, or similar software

  • Experience of running project teams, including external contractors and third parties
