Energy Cost Advisor

£27000 - £30000 per annum

Job description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a fixed term contract until March 2021.

The post of Energy Cost Advisor will provide advice and support to householders to maximise the energy efficiency of their homes, mitigate their energy costs and fuel poverty through a range of work including support with debt issues through negotiating with energy providers.

The post holder will be expected to liaise with staff, agencies and partners to arrange inspections, works, funding opportunities or energy advice to improve the energy efficiency of households.

Main Duties

  • Promote the Energy Advice Service to maximise uptake of householders.
  • Completing a client survey form with householders on their current energy arrangements and needs.
  • Provide accurate and impartial advice on energy efficiency, energy use, energy bills and heating based on the information provided by the householder.
  • Provide advice and guidance specific to householder's needs to help improve their circumstances in relation to fuel poverty and/or fuel debt.
  • Provide general advice to householders on meter readings, understanding their energy bills, benefits of SMART meters, etc to improve their understanding of energy consumption.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partners and agencies e.g. Scottish Government, Home Energy Scotland, etc. to maximise and keep abreast of services, grants and energy initiatives to benefit householders. These relationships are also important to provide effective and efficient referral arrangements for energy advice and services.
  • Provide information and, where appropriate, making referrals on behalf of householders to access grants and other sources of funding for the installation of energy saving measures.
  • Attend home visits with aim of providing energy advice and information and fulfilling the requirements of the role.
  • Organise and attend surgeries, workshops and tenants associations meetings to promote the service and provide energy advice and assistance to householders.
  • Maintain case files for each client, with information on the advice, referrals and other outcomes to achieve energy efficiency.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Recent experience of providing advice, assistance or advocacy in energy efficiency and/or fuel poverty
  • Good knowledge of energy and fuel poverty issues.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral), and ability to communicate with a broad range of people.
  • The ability to work well on own initiative whilst taking responsibility to excel and maximise the impact and outcomes of the service.
  • A positive, supportive and caring attitude.
  • Experience of working with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish, develop and sustain relationships with key partners, agencies and stakeholders associated with the service.
  • Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills including competence in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • A driving licence with access to a car with insurance for business use.
