Job description

We are currently recruiting for a long term funded post for a Tenancy Sustainment Officer. You will be working with a small, mighty and very passionate charity to make a difference to the lives of young female survivors of sexual abuse. This is a part time post of 2.5 days. The closing date for the post is 28th March with interviews being held on 3rd/4th April.

Within the Tenancy Sustainment role you will help the young women in the service develop the skills needed to cope with what has happened to them and build an independent life and positive future. You will be helping young women who have experienced sexual abuse or any form of sexual violence to hold on to their own tenancies, providing short term (15 - 20 sessions) one-to-one support and crisis intervention. Your knowledge of how sexual abuse and violence impacts on housing and homelessness in young women will be vital in supporting and advocating for them, as will any knowledge you have on Housing First and the mental health issues and coping strategies used by survivors.

The main duties of the role are:

  • To provide a Tenancy Sustainment Support Service to female survivors, 16-25 years, of childhood sexual abuse/exploitation, rape/sexual assault and/or other forms of sexual violence, including commercial sexual exploitation, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness
  • To provide direct 1:1 support and psycho education around abuse (from a feminist perspective), homelessness and the impact on tenancy sustainment that will prevent the cycles of homelessness and abuse
  • To network with other agencies, establish referral pathways, partnerships, support reviews and wrap around support networks
  • To provide trauma informed support, motivation and positivity to the young women
  • You will be based within a housing office so you will provide support, information, advice and act as a consultant to staff in housing and homelessness departments

Experience required

  • An understanding of Men's Violence against Women and Girls (MVAWG) and ability and passion to work from a feminist perspective in all aspects of role.
  • A relevant qualification in counselling and/or Community Education, housing, Social Work or other related field.
  • Holding or Working towards SVQ level3 Health and Social care or equivalent.
  • At least 1 years' experience and skills in providing individual emotional/psychological support involving housing/homelessness and/or MVAWG

You will be required to travel between offices in the North Lanarkshire area therefore transport is required.
