Job description
We are currently recruiting for a Database Administrator on a permanent basis on behalf of our public sector client in Stirling.
Salary: £42k - £50k
The role holder will be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of all the organisation's databases is to ensure that data is available, protected from loss and corruption, and easily accessible as needed. They will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, updating and designing the data and integration infrastructure, and ensuring that all data can be secured and restored based on the operational requirements and documentation. They will work closely with the product development team to design new and alter existing databases, ETL, and iPaaS services to meet project requirements.
Duties;
- To design and implement new database strategies to ensure all databases adhere to the recovery point and recovery time objectives defined
- Manage and maintain the services and ensure all integrations conform to the architectural standards established; maintain the ETL routines and infrastructure.
- Configure, manage, maintain, administer and govern PaaS and ETL services, SQL Servers, and Azure SQL instances to perform at optimal levels and cost effectiveness
- Provide experience with database activities like replication, backup and recovery, authentication, writing store procedures and functions, performing database tuning and monitoring.
- Support Azure Data and Data Factory services such as provisioning data storage services, ingesting streaming and batch data, transforming data, implementing security requirements, implementing data retention policies, identifying performance bottlenecks, and accessing external data sources
- Partner with the Data Architect to plan, design, develop and maintain the overall data strategy, data architecture, data models, principles and standards
- Provide assistance with the setup and administration of database with cloud-based applications.
- Assist in all training, troubleshooting, deployments (local and external), and documentation efforts.
- Assist with database development and documentation as it relates to the web applications.
- Proactively and regularly make recommendations for system improvements
Experience & Skills;
- Degree in a relevant disciplineor considerable relevant experience
- Experience with programming languages such PL/SQL coding
- Experience with database activities like replication, backup and recovery, authentication, writing store procedures and functions, performing database tuning and monitoring.
- Easily design and implement a business process into functional and efficient code
- Implement and manage company data management practices and policies
- Previous experience in administering, managing and tuning databases
- Previous experience with Oracle, Postgres, SQL Server, SAP or MySQL
- Good understanding of data and schema standards and concepts
- Expertise in SQL
- Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on company's success
- Experience of working within ITIL, Prince2 (or similar) and Customer Service Excellence standards
- Experience of working within the cloud as SaaS and or PaaS
- Experience of managing Azure database components such as PaaS MSSQL, DataFactory etc…
- level of proficiency and experience with ETL tools such Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) and Oracle Data Integrator (ODI).
