Job description

We have a current opportunity for a Operating Model Design Lead on a 2 year fixed-term basis with our public sector client. The position will be based in Edinburgh with a hybrid model of working with 2 days in the office and 3 from home. This may be flexible depending on the projects requirements.

Duties include;

  • Take accountability for defining, guiding, planning, assuring and maintaining the design of the TOM across successive phases of design.
  • Lead the transition from High Level Design to Detailed Design ensuring that this maintains continuity of design principles and design decisions established to date, and is grounded in the evidence for change.
  • Set direction, provide design leadership, and run design assurance activities to ensure that all relevant projects are compliant with the overall target operating model and are focused on resolving the business challenges/ opportunities/ requirements that have been identified.
  • Set direction through leading each of the design work streams, and by taking the lead in resolving specific design issue. Noting that design will be formulated on process design and process architecture re-design.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of other significant organisation change programmes - in particular, the design dependencies and/or conflicts that these present - ensuring that these are incorporated and/or resolved as appropriate
  • Establish the design approaches, tools and standards against which all project design work and assurance must be carried out, adopting appropriate industry and good practice methods. Ensure their application across the programme.
  • Lead and deliver design activities with a collaborative and a co-create ethos, identifying where such activities are most beneficial by working with professional support and academic colleagues across the organisation.

Skills/Experiences Required;

  • The ability to clearly articulate design choices, benefits and challenges, and to facilitate groups with divergent interests to adopt common design solutions.
  • Ability to engage, challenge and empower colleagues to define future states that may be different to current ways of working
  • Team leading and management of business analysis and/or design colleagues
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in design teams and to coach and develop others less specialised.
  • Review and assurance of project teams' design outputs against Target Operating Model and design principles
  • Practical experience in the use of design-related standards and frameworks - e.g. TOGAF, BPMN
