Senior Systems Administrator

Job description

We have a current opportunity for a Systems Administrator for our public sector client in Glasgow. The role will be remote for the most part with a minimum of 1 day in the office a month.

The Systems Administrator will lead the team responsible for the installation and configuration of the departments software, hardware and networks. You will provide strategic input and specialist technical expertise in designing and maintaining the IT infrastructure. You will be a highly skilled in systems administration. You will be accountable for the security and efficient delivery of our clients complex IT systems. You will be required to make sure that the IT systems meet the required regulatory guidelines and will be accountable for the maintenance of standard operating procedures and server validation.

Other duties include;

• Analysing stakeholders needs and drivers, you will lead in the design & implementation of the systems architecture, ensuring the optimum level of uptime for critical systems and integrity for the continued operation of the IT infrastructure. This includes active directory services, databases, storage networks and security.
• Ensure that appropriate processes are in place to monitor & analyse all systems to identify vulnerabilities and trends in systems usage and provide status & exception reports to the unit's Head of IT and to ensure that all systems are patched and upgraded appropriately.

Skills/Experience Required;

• Comprehensive knowledge of multiplatform VM server host architecture and server design using Oracle and/or Microsoft Hypervisors
• Comprehensive knowledge of server security, patching, identity management and redundancy principles for both MS Windows Server and Linux systems.
• Comprehensive knowledge of backup scheduling and restores under VM and bare metal environments
• Experience of iSCSI Storage area networks and direct attached storage
• Experience of Oracle VM management, MS Hyper-V or equivalent experience with similar systems
• Ability to create, upgrade and restore clustered database systems to support Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Ability to create and manage Active Directory domain
• Ability to design nightly/weekly automated backup schedule
• Ability to maintain cross platform scripting for automating server process
