Fire Safety Advisor

Morgan Hunt is delighted to be partnering again with a Higher Education client in Glasgow in their search for Fire Safety Advisor for a 6-month contract.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a Global leader within Higher Education & Research and work alongside other Compliance and Estates professionals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• To develop an Estates and Buildings Fire Safety Action Plan, manage delivery of multiple construction and engineering projects to address items within the Plan, ensuring achievement of agreed milestones and timescales and that a database of records and reports on progress against planned actions is maintained.
• To review fire risk assessments and prepare recommendations and action plans or remedial action where appropriate, achieving agreement on recommendations from key stakeholders.
• To report on and/or propose alternatives including management solutions or other risk mitigation measures taking due cognisance of the severity of risk, available resources and anticipated future use of each property.
• To undertake inspections of premises under Estates and Buildings control including common areas, escape routes, service risers, voids, plant rooms, workshops
• Review the adequacy and integrity of existing fire safety arrangements and update fire safety action plan with additional items not captured in original fire risk assessments and consult as appropriate with other professional colleagues.
• To inspect fire safety systems maintained by Estates and Buildings, review the adequacy of existing maintenance arrangements and record keeping and provide recommendations for necessary improvement.
• To prepare detailed specifications of fire safety improvement works for building fabric and engineering systems, manage delivery of the specified works through in-house operatives and/or appointed contractors and provide technical sign-off at appropriate stages and upon completion of works.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Thorough knowledge of the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005, relevant Codes of Practice and British Standard
• Thorough knowledge of relevant fire safety standards contained within the Building (Scotland) Act 2003 and current Scottish Technical standards.
• Knowledge of current Health and safety legislation and workplace requirements
• An ordinary degree, VQ4 or equivalent in a relevant subject e. Fire Engineering, Building Control, or Building Surveying
