Job description

We have a current opportunity for a Network Engineer on a permanent basis. The position will be based with our public sector client in Stirling working on a Hybrid pattern of on-site and home working.

Salary: £36-43k

Pension: 21% Employer

Annual Leave: 41 Days

Reporting directly to the Infrastructure Development Team Leader (Networking), the successful candidate will be responsible for work on multiple ongoing Network improvement projects and tracking and resolving all assigned support requests with a high level of technical competency bringing a range of experience from numerous IT disciplines.

The role requires the Network Specialist to ensure that the LAN/WAN can provide the required services by supporting the network infrastructure through the use of troubleshooting, monitoring and problem resolution in a production environment and ultimately enhancing User experience.

Other duties include;

  • Provide daily operational support for LAN/WAN networks, including Firewalls.
  • Ensure networking stability and resolve technical issues associated with network and routing protocols at all levels of the OSI model utilising diagnostic and network administration tools.
  • Identify and resolve all hardware related problems.
  • Provide overall network infrastructure support to routing and switching equipment, Firewalls and cabling.
  • Plan, install, and support hardware, software upgrades and resolves associated technical issues.
  • Analyse customer requirements to ensure better contribution to development of networking tools.
  • Monitor systems to oversee firewall and other network related improvement processes.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation of network and cabling layouts.
  • Assist in network capacity planning programme.
  • Maintain an inventory of network related IT property and assets.
  • Implement secure network access protocols and monitor, evaluate and resolve issues.

Skills/Experience Required;

  • IP networking in an organisation which has multiple sites and/or multiple buildings per site, and a large number (>1,000) of end users.
  • Design of network solutions including options analysis.
  • Product selection and costing.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IP and networking technologies.
  • Network security.
  • Use of Microsoft Office products.
  • End user technical support including fault resolution under pressure.
