Job description

We have a current opportunity for a UX Research Specialist on a permanent basis with our public sector client based in Edinburgh City Centre.

Salary: £35-42k

Pension: 31% (21% Employer)

Annual Leave: Circa 40 Days

Work Type: Hybrid - 2 Days in the office, 3 from home

Main duties Include;

  • Design, plan and carry out user-centred research and design activities to support continuous iterative improvement of organisation systems and services. Formulate hypotheses and assumptions to test in research. Design and deliver a variety of service support mechanisms (e.g. training/promotional materials, system modifications) to maximise service quality, efficiency and continuity.
  • Ensure professional and quality service standards are maintained. Conduct research accurately and methodically to address Identify and make recommendations for improvements (e.g. in policies and procedures) to contribute to the continuous operational improvement of the User Experience team and its activities.

  • Lead projects of a short-term nature, and contribute to larger organisation-wide projects as part of a project team, working closely with service managers and product owners to support the achievement of project 20 objectives. Work collaboratively with teams operating systems and delivering user-facing services for the organisation, reviewing levels of staff and student satisfaction and, identifying and making recommendations for improvements, and facilitating best practice.

  • Plan and carry out user-centred design research including identification of user needs and goals and corresponding business unit goals through a range of methods including usability testing, user journey mapping, card sorting, content auditing, affinity mapping, interviews, surveys, co-design workshops, contextual inquiry, and ethnographic studies.

  • Promote a culture of continuous delivery and improvement, ensuring that key tools, methods and processes are regularly reviewed, maintained and improved.

Skills/Experience Required;

  • Significant and demonstrable experience (typically 2 years hands-on experience) in related roles, demonstrating development through involvement in progressively more demanding work/role
  • Demonstrable ability to choose and apply appropriate user-centred design research methods (from data gathering to synthesis and analysis) for different design life cycle phases and situations
  • Proven understanding of relevant regulations, codes of practice and agreed standards for organisation systems and services.
  • Familiarity with legislative requirements, regulations and procedures e.g. relating to accessibility & equality, research ethics and online privacy & data protection
  • Proven ability to develop successful, strategic relationships with colleagues, users, and other stakeholders based upon a commitment to collaborative working facilitating improved performance and results.
  • Demonstrable meticulous attention to detail and ability to deliver work to a high standard including accurate and methodical documentation and reporting of research methods, findings, analysis and recommendations
