Are you passionate about supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence within health care settings? We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Health Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocate (IDSVA) to work within Sutton, providing crucial support to individuals affected by abuse.

Role Overview:

As a Health IDSVA, you will be based within the hospital, offering direct support to patients who have experienced domestic or sexual violence. You will provide expert advice, emotional support, and advocacy, ensuring survivors receive timely and appropriate assistance. This role plays a key part in integrating health care services with holistic, longer-term support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored one-to-one support to patients in A&E who have experienced domestic or sexual violence.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop personalised safety plans to protect service users.
  • Offer information on available resources and services, such as legal support, housing, and counselling.
  • Work collaboratively with hospital staff to identify individuals needing support and promote awareness of domestic and sexual violence issues.
  • Liaise with external agencies, including police, social services, and specialist services, to ensure coordinated care and support for survivors.
  • Maintain comprehensive case records and adhere to all safeguarding protocols.
  • Participate in hospital multidisciplinary meetings, ensuring survivor's voices are heard and their needs are reflected in ongoing care.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience working with survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence, especially within health care or crisis settings.
  • Strong understanding of the impact of abuse on survivors and knowledge of the challenges they may face in accessing services.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding practices and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and non-judgemental approach.
  • Ability to work closely with health care professionals and external organisations to provide comprehensive support.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy caseload within a hospital environment.
  • IDSVA qualification or willingness to work towards it.
