Chair of the Board & Governors | Hereward College
Location: Coventry, West Midlands
Closing date: 9 a.m. Wednesday 19th April 2023
Time commitment: Chair 1.5 days per month, Governors a day per month.
Join the board of Hereward College, a specialist further education college dedicated to improving the life opportunities of young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
About Hereward College
Set on a single campus in the Tile Hill area to the west of Coventry, Hereward College is a further education college which has been providing specialist education to learners with learning difficulties and disabilities since 1972.
Unlike other colleges within the FE sector, we have a very specialist focus. Due to this, we have what could best be described as a ‘national catchment’ and currently provide education and training to around 320 young people aged 16+ and employ 230 staff.
About the role
To ensure that our SLT and wider staff team are supported in their continuous mission to deliver high-quality, individualised provision for our learners, support their families and retain our outstanding national reputation, we now seek to appoint a new Chair and additional governors to our board.
These new board members will offer additional insight and professional expertise to support and challenge our decision-making processes and ensure that as a college we are continuing to provide the best service possible to the communities which we serve.
Who we are looking for?
Given the varied, yet specialist nature of our provision, we would welcome applications from individuals with experience gained from a range of appropriate professional backgrounds.
Primarily, our new Chair should be someone with an understanding and knowledge of SEND; preferably within the contexts of further education, behaviour, safeguarding and/or social care. It will be important that the successful candidate can understand and support us within the landscape that we operate. Our new Chair should have previous governance and board experience perhaps having previously served as a committee chair or governor elsewhere.
Having completed an assessment of the skills and attributes of our current board, it would be useful if our additional new governors possessed similar yet complimentary skills and backgrounds; those linked to social care for young people, residential provision, legal frameworks and the related sector policy.
Candidates for these additional Governor roles do not necessarily need to have boardroom experience as we will support them with a full induction process. However, professional experience at a senior level will be important.
Applications for this role close at 9 a.m. Wednesday 19th April 2023.
