Job description

We have a current opportunity for a Club Leader (Breakfast and Afterschool Club) on a permanent basis.

Job Purpose-

To be responsible for the running of After School Club in line with YMCA ST Pauls Group standards and procedures. To lead a team in the delivery of high quality child care primary aged children.

Duties and responsibilities-

  • To provide quality childcare service, in accordance with Ofsted regulations and YMCA ST Pauls Group standards
  • Applying professional standards of care at all times with due regard for the safety, physical and emotional needs of the children, including an awareness of child protection/safeguarding
  • Creating a welcoming and happy environment for all by helping to ensure that club rules are implemented and adequate behaviour maintained
  • Promptly dealing with anything of an unusual or serious nature reported by the After School Club Playworkers
  • Helping to ensure that children are provided with a variety of nutritious snacks with due regard for food safety, dietary requirements, allergies and hygiene in line with School Food Trust requirements and the DfES Food Standards
  • Any damage to the premises is reported by the After School Club Playworkers are dealt with promptly, referring to After School Club Coordinator and or Centre Services Manager as appropriate.
  • Club equipment is adequately maintained and cared for and to take part in a regular programme of cleaning and tidying equipment and storage areas
  • Provide a variety of creative and appropriate play activities, by planning, together with other staff and the children, varied weekly and term activity programmes
  • Encourage the play space to be freely chosen and personally directed by the children themselves; incorporating the playwork principles into daily operations.
  • Support children by displaying positive behaviour and taking the time to build relationships with each child in the club
  • Working in such a way that high standards of health and safety are maintained and undertake half-termly fire drills
  • Dealing with accidents appropriately by ensuring that first aid is administered and accident details recorded in the accident file and reported in full to the parent/carer
  • Ensure Daily Check Lists are completed by the Club Leader or a Playworker prior to the session commencing and sharing these with the After School Club Coordinator.

Parents/Carers and External Relationships-

  • Build relationships with parents/carers encouraging involvement in the club and promoting positive staff/parent relations through regular communication, giving feedback on their children and issuing and collating customer satisfaction questionnaires.
  • Liaise with school staff, meetings with the head teacher as required and attendance at school events when necessary.
  • Communicate with the After School Co-ordinator by keeping in regular weekly contact and attending periodic Club Leaders' training sessions
  • Liaise with local authority and other relevant agencies as required including Ofsted during inspections

Administration and Professional-

  • Keeping daily registers and maintaining children's records, reviewing all contact information at least once per school term
  • Collecting fees paid to the club directly, and passing these on in a timely manner to After School and Breakfast Club coordinator
  • Completing, checking and submitting staff timesheets and club expenses in accordance with existing practices
