Bilborough College is recruiting Governors to its Local Governing Body. This is an exciting time to become a Governor at Bilborough College. On 1 January 2019, the College converted to a 16-19 Academy and joined the Better Futures Multi-Academy Trust (BFMAT) which is sponsored by Coventry University.
BFMAT is the first University-sponsored MAT focussed on Sixth Form Education and Sixth Form Colleges in particular. The objective of the Trust is to build and strengthen provision to all Academies within the Trust to improve student outcomes.
The Bilborough College Local Governing Body (LGB) is a sub-committee of the BFMAT and operates within the context of a written scheme of delegation. The role of the LGB includes:
• overseeing the development and delivery of an academy strategy
• providing robust challenge and scrutiny of quality
• supporting and strengthening leadership by holding the Principal to account for the performance of students and staff
The LGB is active in developing close relationships with local stakeholders, particularly with students, parents and staff.
An inclusive LGB that reflects a diverse range of skills, experiences, characteristics and perspectives will have a positive impact on setting the strategic direction of the College. The LGB therefore actively encourage volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures and perspectives in order to reflect the communities it serves.
Your motivation could be to make a positive professional development step by acquiring new skills, or you may have significant levels of expertise from which the Board can benefit e.g. finance, IT, marketing (amongst others).
Being a Governor also presents an opportunity to give back to the local community and make a positive contribution to the education of young people, in turn driving employability and raising aspirations.
The LGB meets approximately six times per academic year, normally on a Monday evening from 5pm-7pm. This is a voluntary role although reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. Appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
