Morgan Hunt are working with Newcastle College Group to search for a HR Business Partner for their Newcastle College Campus. If you are an experienced HR professional, this may be the opportunity for you!

Role Purpose

The P&D Business Partner role is a key member of the team, reporting directly to a Head of Department.

The purpose of this role is to enable transformational and operational people activity, to support our people and to improve the colleague journey and candidate experience across our Colleges and Professional Services.

The Business Partner post-holders on both the Transformational and Operations teams will need to be fluid in their approach with the ability to support each other during peak times. On occasions, they may also be required to deputise for the P&D Head of Department, ensuring good quality and consistent service provision is maintained at all times.

  • Senior point of contact for designated areas, responsible for the provision of good quality advice, guidance and support across the full NCG colleague journey.
  • Provide a professional strategic service and pick up ER case escalations ensuring mitigation of risks, a consistent approach is taken, proactive implementation of business focused solutions and compliance with NCG policies, procedures and current employment legislation.
  • Lead for all business change programmes including re-organisations, restructures and TUPE transfers, ensuring effective management of all associated consultation requirements.
  • Work in collaboration with managers to support business planning / workforce planning / budget planning processes including organisational design, forecasting resourcing needs and identifying future talent requirements.
  • Liaise with the Transformation BP's to gain advice, guidance and updates relating to specialist project remits (i.e. Pay, Contracts & Engagement, Training Programmes & Policy Development, People Systems, Data & Reporting, Talent Acquisition and Development) to ensure you have the most up to date knowledge and information for dissemination.
  • Be responsible for supporting the implementation of strategic people projects and transformation initiatives to ensure that new practices and cultural changes are incorporated as part of BAU activity across all colleges.
  • Deliver coaching, walkthroughs and training sessions for managers to uplift capability and to support the development of a high-performance culture regarding operational requirements, policy and process application and to support the embedding of new projects and initiatives at a local level.
  • Share and promote the utilisation and interpretation of people data and metrics to support evidence-based decision making across NCG.
  • Promote the use of self service (via the People Portal, ESS, MSS etc.) for general queries, advice and guidance.
  • Ensure all processes and standard operating procedures (for employee relations and people admin) are in place, are linked to relevant departmental SLA's and are regularly reviewed so that they remain fit for purpose, add value and drive a culture of continual improvement.

Line Management Responsibilities

  • May also be required to carry out the day-to-day line management of lower level P&D colleagues, supporting them to perform to the highest possible standard via the implementation of clear training plans, exploring development opportunities, mentoring, coaching and undertaking annual objective setting and performance reviews (appraisal).

P&D Standard Responsibilities

  • Advocate compliance with NCG pay processes and the consistent application of pay and grading structures in order to reduce risks (i.e. with equal pay and equal value claims), ensuring anomalies are addressed/considered via the pay exception panel and not as isolated incidents at a local level.
  • Embed the NCG wellbeing strategy and support associated activity at a group and local level, demonstrating our ongoing commitment.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
