Financial Accountant - Technical

Location: Bury - Greater Manchester

Contract: Permanent; Full-Time or Part-Time

Salary: £37,096 - £39,437 per annum

Morgan Hunt are delighted to be supporting a large College group based in Bury (Greater Manchester) to appoint a Financial Accountant (Technical).

The College group has an annual income of £25m , has over 10,000 enrolments to its programmes and is assessed by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) as having an "Outstanding" financial health grading.

About the role

The Financial Accountant will be responsible providing technical financial support to the Head of Finance and the Finance Team in a way which complies with financial and audit regulations so that the objectives of the College and the team are achieved.


  • Provide analysis and advice to the Head of Finance on the potential implications of proposed changes in accounting policies.
  • Support the Head of Finance in the production of the annual statutory accounts and regularity audit.
  • Work with the Head of Finance in the production of the balance sheet and ensure that the related reconciliations are produced by the team on a monthly basis.
  • Produce the information required for the completion of the 3 year financial plan.
  • Oversee the College projects, prepare the necessary reports and produce the relevant recharges.
  • To support the Management Accountant on the production of budget reports.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified accountant or AAT qualification with a minimum of 2 years' experience as a financial accountant in a similar setting.
  • Strong IT skills including pivot tables, V Lookup and graphs is essential.
  • Strong technical accounting skills.
  • Understanding of Financial Reporting Standards and their application.
  • Previous exposure to audits.
  • Experience of maintaining asset records and associated accounting treatments.
