The Role:
The role of Lecturer in Nuclear Related Technology is to facilitate a positive learning environment which encourages all learners to achieve their full potential, through the development, delivery and assessment of relevant resources. The role would be involved in the delivery of subject areas to meet the emerging skills demand arising from sites undertaking decommissioning operations and the development of new commercial nuclear power reactors in the UK. To that end, the company is seeking to appoint a high-calibre scientist/engineer who wishes to pursue a career in training and education within the rapidly developing nuclear sector.
Lecturers are required to support the Higher Education (UoC) Delivery Manager in the delivery of the department curriculum to the quality and standards required.
What you'll be doing
- Teach and assess the various classes or groups assigned to him/her in accordance with established practice and conditions of service and to have primary responsibility for the conduct and discipline of students within their control.
- Develop course material within the concept of the curriculum.
- Participate in internal verification and undertake evaluation of courses/programmes and the academic counselling of students.
- Participate in curricular development designed to meet the needs of the subject area.
- To co-operate in ensuring that centre safety precautions are carried out and safety regulations adhered to.
- Maintain expertise by undertaking professional development programmes as
- required.
- Assist with relevant administration as required
What we're looking for
- Several years' experience in industry, research or academic environment.
- A minimum of BEng or BSc Hons at Class 2.1 or above in nuclear technology or a related discipline.
- Excellent literacy, numeracy and IT skills
- The ability to communicate effectively, both orally in in writing with learners, employers and staff.
Desired Experience-
- PgCert Ed or equivalent - less experienced candidates will be considered with the expectation that the individual will undertake appropriate training and professional development, including working towards a recognised teaching qualification.
- An understanding of Apprenticeship Standards.
- An intermediate level of understanding of MS office applications
- Teaching, lecturing or training experience.
- Experience of delivering and developing Engineering course
- A Proven ability, maturity and confidence to deal with a diverse range of people
- Be a self-starter, able to manage a variety of projects independently
- Have the ability to work on own initiative
- Be patient and show control in challenging situations
- Can take ownership for problems and assignment to resolution
- Show leadership when appropriate, but is also a good team player
- Clear thinking and a strong communicator
- A knowledge and ability to use industrial software, such as Matlab, Multisim.
