Job Title: Children and Young People Practitioner
Location: Essex
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (9:30am - 5:30pm)
Salary: £15-£19 Per Hour
Contract: Temporary - 2-3 months
Start Date: As soon as possible
About the Role
We're recruiting a Children and Young People Practitioner to deliver direct support to children and young people living in refuge accommodation. This role focuses on helping children and their mothers recover from the impact of domestic abuse through one-to-one sessions, group work, play-based activities, and family support.
You'll be working closely with support staff, local agencies, and the wider family unit to ensure every child's voice is heard and their individual needs are understood and met.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct emotional and practical support to children and young people in refuge
Carry out risk and therapeutic assessments, and create tailored support plans
Deliver structured one-to-one and group sessions using creative and play-based approaches
Support family relationships and work with mothers on parenting strategies
Advocate for children and young people in relation to education, health, and safeguarding
Plan and deliver engaging activities during school holidays and after school hours
Liaise with external agencies and attend multi-agency meetings when required
Ensure all safeguarding concerns are appropriately addressed and reported
Accurately maintain case records and risk assessments
Support the ongoing development of the children's services offer
About You
Essential Experience & Knowledge:
Working with children and young people affected by domestic abuse or trauma
Managing a caseload and developing support plans
Planning and delivering play and activity-based sessions
Safeguarding children and working within child protection frameworks
Supporting parents/carers with parenting strategies
Working collaboratively with multi-agency partners
Skills & Attributes:
Strong understanding of child development and the impact of trauma
Confident communicator with children, families, and professionals
Able to balance multiple priorities in a busy, emotionally demanding environment
Committed to anti-discriminatory, inclusive practice
IT-literate with experience using case management systems
Qualifications:
A relevant qualification at Level 3 or above (e.g. Childcare, Early Years, Social Work)
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain)
Ability to travel between sites as required
