Our client

Morgan Hunt is working with a specialist supported housing provider who provide housing and support to those experience homelessness across Wigan and West Lancashire who work to make a significant impact within the community to reduce homelessness.

This is a permanent role, working Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm with travel across Wigan and West Lancashire required across properties.

You will report to the Supported Housing Operations Manager and will work to assess individuals facing homelessness, identify their key needs and move people on to independent living.

The role - Housing Support Worker

• Support and mentor people experiencing homelessness and who have low level support needs across Wigan and West Lancashire, developing the skills necessary to sustain a tenancy.
• Complete a tailored support plan to meet individual housing and support needs. The tailored support plan will be reviewed weekly to ensure the client is achieving their goals and outcomes.
• To build strong links with other housing, health and social care professionals, benefits, welfare and advocacy agencies, and other property owners as appropriate, to enable clients to sustain tenancies and future tenancies.
• Liaise with external referral agencies to assess referrals to ensure that they are compatible and suitable for the service.
• Ensure all benefit documentation including Housing Benefit is completed and submitted within 48 hours of the tenancy commencing with all relevant documentation.
• Work with individuals to understand their tenancy rights and responsibilities, access primary healthcare, access education, training and employment opportunities, develop budgeting skills to maximise their income.
• Managing approximately 30 residents across a number of different properties.
• Offering personalised support sessions to individuals, working through outcome stars and preparing customers ready for move on to longer term accommodation.
• Developing and maintaining relationships with external organisations and partners.

The candidate

• A valid driving license and access to a car is essential for this role.
• Experience of supporting people vulnerable people in a supported housing officer role or similar position.
• Strong negotiation skills with the ability to mediate disputes effectively.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on customer service.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in record keeping.
• A commitment to promoting equality and diversity within housing services.
