International Tax Manager Role Overview
As the International Tax Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the firm's global tax compliance and advisory across multiple territories, liaising directly with CFOs and tax advisors in key regions including the US, France, Germany, and the UK. You will manage the tax processes for partners, ensuring compliance with local tax regulations, reviewing year-end tax calculations, and advising on tax equalisation and mobility matters. With a focus on international tax, this position offers a high level of autonomy, project management responsibility, and people leadership.
Key Responsibilities of the International Tax Manager:
- International Tax Expertise: Manage complex international tax issues, working closely with global CFOs and external advisors to ensure timely and accurate tax filings and compliance across jurisdictions.
- Leadership & Team Management: Lead and develop a team of 1-2 direct reports, providing guidance and support to junior members of the team.
- Tax Compliance & Advisory: Oversee tax compliance processes, including preparing non-UK tax reserve calculations, reviewing international tax filings, and providing tax advice for partner mobility issues.
- Project Management: Take charge of international tax projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring objectives are met and deadlines adhered to.
- Cross-border Collaboration: Work closely with key stakeholders in various countries, including internal teams and external tax advisers, to ensure smooth and efficient tax operations.
- Process Improvements: Continuously assess and improve existing tax processes, identifying opportunities to streamline operations and ensure compliance with evolving legislation.
Key Requirements for the International Tax Manager:
- Tax Expertise: You should be a qualified accountant with at least 2-3 years post-qualification experience (PQE), with a solid understanding of corporate and partnership tax. Familiarity with personal tax, capital gains tax (CGT), and indirect taxes will be beneficial.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage and mentor junior team members, with strong communication skills to explain complex tax matters to non-specialists.
- Project Management: Experience managing tax projects end-to-end, with the ability to prioritise and handle multiple deadlines.
- Analytical Skills: Strong attention to detail with the ability to work with complex data and provide practical, actionable solutions.
- Excel Proficiency: Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret data effectively.
Preferred Background of the International Tax Manager:
- A professional qualification in accounting (ACA/ACCA) alongside tax qualifications (CTA) is highly preferred. A combination of both would be ideal.
- Experience within a professional services environment or a law firm, particularly with international tax issues, would be advantageous.
- Previous exposure to Transfer Pricing and Pillar 2 would be beneficial as the firm looks to expand its capabilities in these areas.
