
Legal Cashier Manager
We are delighted to be supporting a highly regarded global law firm with the recruitment of an experienced and commercially minded Legal Cashier Manager to lead their established cashiering function. This is a key leadership appointment within the firm's finance team and will play a central role in ensuring best-in-class financial operations and compliance across the business.
Based in Southampton, the Legal Cashier Manager will oversee day-to-day cashiering activity while ensuring strict adherence to the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SRA) and internal financial controls. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced professional services environment and enjoys developing and empowering high-performing teams. The successful candidate would be expected in the office a minimum of 3 days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor and develop the cashiering team, allocating work, managing performance and ensuring timely completion of daily tasks
- Act as the first point of escalation for complex queries, providing expert guidance and support
- Oversee banking and financial transaction processing, including client/office receipts, inter-company transfers and cheque requests
- Review and authorise electronic payments through the firm's online banking platforms
- Ensure accurate and timely bank reconciliations, month-end and year-end close processes
- Build and maintain strong internal stakeholder relationships across finance, fee-earning teams and clients
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies with professionalism and efficiency
- Drive process improvement initiatives and support finance system enhancements
- Assist with compliance reporting and external audits, ensuring regulatory and internal policy standards are upheld
About You:
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- 5-10 years' experience in legal cashiering, with substantial understanding of legal accounting principles
- 3-5 years' experience in a leadership or management capacity within a finance or legal environment
- Strong working knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules (SRA)
- A strategic but hands-on mindset, with a collaborative and solutions-focused approach
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with partners, fee earners and external parties
- Professional accounting qualifications such as AAT (or equivalent) are desirable
