Azure Infrastructure Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Azure Infrastructure Engineer to join its global Infrastructure team as it embarks on the next stage of its cloud transformation journey.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys building, automating, and evolving cloud platforms rather than operating in a purely architectural or advisory capacity. You will play a key role in designing and implementing Azure infrastructure, developing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, and helping establish the foundations of the organisation's Azure environment.

Working closely with Infrastructure, Platform Engineering, Security, and Operations teams, you will help shape cloud standards, mentor colleagues, and contribute to the future direction of the cloud platform while remaining heavily involved in day-to-day engineering and delivery activities.

This role reports to the Assistant Director, Infrastructure & Cloud Architecture.

Key Responsibilities

Azure Platform Engineering

• Design, build and support enterprise-scale Microsoft Azure infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain Azure Landing Zones aligned to security, governance and operational best practices.
• Implement scalable, resilient and secure cloud solutions.
• Design and manage Azure networking components, including connectivity, segmentation and security controls.
• Support the organisation's Azure adoption and cloud transformation initiatives.

Infrastructure as Code & Automation

• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform.
• Drive automation initiatives to improve consistency, governance, compliance and operational efficiency.
• Develop repeatable deployment patterns and platform standards.
• Reduce manual operational effort through automation and engineering best practices.

Cloud Transformation & Migration

• Support the migration of workloads from on-premises environments into Azure.
• Assess existing infrastructure and recommend migration approaches.
• Utilise Azure Migrate and associated tooling to deliver successful migrations.
• Ensure performance, resilience and security are optimised before, during and after migration activities.

Operations & Technical Leadership

• Act as a senior escalation point for complex infrastructure and cloud-related incidents.
• Troubleshoot issues relating to Azure infrastructure, networking, identity, performance and platform services.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative measures.
• Collaborate closely with Infrastructure Operations and Platform Engineering teams to maintain a stable and secure environment.

Security & Governance

• Implement and maintain cloud environments in line with security policies and industry best practices.
• Identify cloud configuration drift, misconfigurations and vulnerabilities and develop remediation solutions.
• Contribute to cloud governance standards, guardrails and operational procedures.
• Support resilience, disaster recovery and business continuity initiatives.

Mentoring & Team Contribution

• Mentor and support engineers with less cloud experience.
• Share knowledge and help develop Azure capability across the team.
• Contribute ideas, improvements and recommendations to cloud strategy discussions.
• Foster collaboration across Infrastructure, Security, Operations and Platform Engineering teams.

Required Experience

• Minimum 5 years' experience in infrastructure, cloud, or platform engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Experience designing and implementing Azure Landing Zones.
• Experience with Azure networking, connectivity, and resiliency design.
• Experience delivering cloud migration or cloud transformation projects.
• Experience developing Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform.
• Experience automating infrastructure deployment and management.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities within enterprise environments.
• Experience working within complex hybrid infrastructure environments.
