GCSE English Lecturer - East London

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established further education college in East London for an experienced and passionate GCSE English Lecturer to support learners from September 2025. This is a vital role, working with learners who are aiming to achieve a Grade 4 or above in English as part of their progression into further education, apprenticeships, or employment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and structured lessons for GCSE English Language (based on AQA, Edexcel, or equivalent specifications)
  • Teach key components including reading comprehension, writing techniques, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and spoken language
  • Plan and prepare effective schemes of work and learning materials to meet individual learner needs
  • Track and monitor student progress, providing timely feedback and intervention support
  • Support resit students and those with additional learning needs to build confidence and exam readiness
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies, including digital tools, to enhance learning outcomes
  • Prepare students for internal assessments, mock exams, and final GCSE examinations
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, achievement, and progression
  • Contribute to departmental meetings, curriculum development, and quality assurance processes

Essential Criteria:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent)
  • A degree in English or a related subject
  • Experience teaching GCSE English Language in a post-16 or FE environment
  • In-depth understanding of awarding body requirements and resit strategies
  • Ability to motivate and engage learners with varied abilities, including those with barriers to learning
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and classroom management skills
  • Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain one)

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience teaching Functional Skills English alongside GCSE
  • Understanding of SEN and inclusive education strategies
  • Familiarity with online platforms such as Moodle, Teams, or Google Classroom
